The lion of Galician Ruthenia [1] is a quite common heraldic symbol in western Ukraine. In 1943, one of the versions of the lion was used to create the emblem of the 14th Waffen Grenadier Division of the ϟϟ (1st Galician) [2].

Currently in Ukraine, this symbol is widely used to demonstrate far-right nationalist views. It is important to take into account the context of use; the presence of crowns in the emblem is of particular importance [1] [3].
