In September 2024, opaquely funded Radical right-wing #TuftonStreet think tanks flocked to the Reform UK conference.

The Adam Smith Institute (ASI) hosted an event, alongside the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) & the TaxPayers’ Alliance (TPA).

The event “The Bully State: How Nanny is taking over Britain” featured Reform UK MP James McMurdock, who knows all about bullying: before he was elected, he failed to publicly disclose he was jailed for repeatedly kicking his girlfriend.

#TuftonSt is the UK wing of a powerful global network of billionaire/corporate-funded lobbyists intent on removing any & all barriers to profit (including Unions, regulations, & taxes) & ultimately, on replacing democarcy with oligarchy.

That so few voters on either side of the Atlantic are aware of these sinister & extremely harmful opaquely funded groups - who are rarely mentioned in the billionaire-owned 'news' media - speaks volumes about why so many people feel let down by democracy.

The same ultrarich individuals & organisations who installed Liz Truss - who in trying to introduce their program too quickly completely fucked Britain's economy - have been grooming Nigel Farage to be Britain's Trump.

They won't be so careless next time.
What about the 'Christian right' - already extremely powerful in the US - I mentioned at the top of the 🧵 in relation to reports that Farage's Reform UK was now turning its attention to rolling back abortion laws in the UK?

The links are crystal clear:

It's all very obvious, yet almost completely invisible to & deliberately concealed from the UK electorate. The UK isn't a functioning democracy - it's plutocarcy, Kleptocracy, or Kakistocracy. Only a handful of media outlets are properly informing voters:

It's the same pattern with climate change: Reform UK is funded by ultrarich individuals with fossil fuel interests & 60% of its MPs are employed by 'Christian' billionaire Paul Marshall, whose hedge fund has more than $2 BILLION invested in fossil fuels.

Few voters - and perhaps even fewer Reform UK supporters and voters - are aware of who, precisely, funds Reform UK Limited.

Has GB "News" ever even mentioned exactly who funds Reform UK Ltd, that three of their employees who are now MPs are in?

I also wonder how many Reform UK supporters are aware that one of its most high profile representatives, Ben Habib, has now tured his back on Reformk UK, citing strong disagreements with Farage & Tice & the antidemocratic nature of Reform UK Ltd.

The power of the ultrarich to shape public discourse, attempts to stifle climate action, destroy the pubic sector & roll back abortion laws & human rights, calls for lower taxes & the shameless normalization of far-right discourse are all linked to Farage.

And more broadly still, all of these developments - including manufactured crises & the toxic culture war issues which dominate our news & politics - are all part of the age old political strategy of Divide & Rule, adopted & now finessed by the ultrarich.

Supposedly flagship @BBCPolitics shows like #bbcqt, #PoliticsLive & #bbclaurak are supposed to educate & inform the public on imporatnt political & social issues. Instead, the @BBC 'floods the zone' with partisan soundbites from professional propagandists.
My open letter to the @BBC about @bbcquestiontime back in February 2023 garnered huge public support & interest, quickly clocking up 300,000 reads in 141 countries & many mentions across a range of national media.

Did ANYTHING about #bbcqt change?

No.

Seriously, what happens socially & politically in the US often happens shortly after in the UK.

We've got a short window - four years - to understand what is happening in the US NOW - & WHY it's happening.

Our Government must act NOW to try & prevent it.

Could Nigel Farage become Britain's next PM?

Unless the Govt address the rise of far-right disinformation, online radicalisation, & what Austrian Linguist Ruth Wodak calls 'the shameless normalization of far-right discourse', I'd say it's very likely.

A 2016 petition calling on the Govt to have a threshold on the EU referendum got more than FOUR MILLION signatures. A 2019 petition calling on the Govt to revoke Article 50 & remain in the EU got more than SIX MILLION signatories.

The relatively new, highly suspicious, divisive anonymous right-wing #disinformation @X account, @InevitableWest, amplified by Musk & which falsely claims Tommy Robinson was jailed "for journalism", is pushing the petition, & making false claims about it.

First, what is 'international law'?

Broadly (it's complicated!) it refers to the body of legal rules, norms, and standards that apply between sovereign states and other entities that are legally recognized as international actors.
The term was coined by the English philosopher Jeremy Bentham (1748–1832). According to Bentham’s classic definition, international law is a collection of rules governing relations between states. This original definition omits individuals and international organizations.
