My friend from Madiq Castle, #Syria just returned to check on his home since he was driven out by regime forces 5 yrs ago. What he told me I think says a lot about Syrians. What they’ve gone through, the love of their country, & perseverance. He said I could share. Stick w/ it🧵
“My house was totally looted. They took the windows, doors, ceramic tiles but thank God it isn’t totally destroyed and has the roof. Most of the roofs & walls are gone on other houses. They also cut down all the trees.”
“It was as if the Tatars and Mongols passed through Madiq Castle”
“in 2022, I saw a beautiful seedling & dwarf lemon tree that I liked. I went brought them to the camp & planted them in a pot.” (For context, he & his beautiful family have been displaced in Idlib for 5 yrs.)
“Whenever people ask me why I left them in the pot & didn’t plant them in the camp, I told them that I would plant them in Madiq Castle when I returned, I bought them for this reason. I didn’t lose hope of returning despite all the fear & oppression that we were living in” #Syria

So much here in Beasley's statement that endangers #humanitarianism and the #UN as a credible humanitarian actor. #Syria #Syria_earthquake 🧵reuters.com/world/middle-e…
1) "Crossline aid has nothing to do w/ the humanitarian response. It is a political decision," As one career UN official told me who worked on the Syria response.

Why should that be clear to anyone that has worked on #Syria or picked up a newspaper in the past 12 years?...
2) The majority of the 4-5 million people in NW Syria have been besieged, attacked, and forcibly displaced by the Syrian regime. For this obvious reason, many people living in the NW also do not want XL aid, as shown in many polls. This is not about HTS.
