🚨🚨 Breaking: OpenAI whistleblower, Suchir Balaji, a 26-year old researcher, was found DEAD in his San Francisco apartment. Here's what we know about the circumstances surrounding his death, and the allegations he made against Sam Altman's blockbuster AI company.

Thread 🧵1/ Image
2/ An "Apparent Suicide"

According to the SFPD: Officers and medics went to Balaji’s at 1:15 p.m. on November 26 for a wellness check. When they arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult male and "no evidence of foul play was found during the initial investigation.” Image
3/ A Key Witness

Balaji’s death comes three months after he publicly accused OpenAI of violating U.S. copyright law while developing ChatGPT.

Information he held was expected to play a key part in lawsuits against the San Francisco-based company. Image
4/ A Change of Heart

Suchir Balaji spent nearly four years as an artificial intelligence researcher at OpenAI.

But in August 2024, he left OpenAI because he no longer wanted to contribute to technologies that he believed would bring society more harm than benefit. Image
5/ OpenAI - Bad for Business

In October, Balaji told the NYT: "ChatGPT and other chatbots are destroying the commercial viability of the individuals, businesses and internet services that created the digital data used to train these A.I. systems." Image
6/ "Not Fundamentally Novel"

On October 23, 2023, Balaji posted an essay on his personal site in which he proves through a mathematical analysis that ChatGPT has broken copyright laws: "The outputs aren’t exact copies of the inputs, but they are also not fundamentally novel." Image
7/ Generative Model Analysis

Balaji argued the technology violates the law because in many cases it directly competes with the copyrighted works it learned from, with the model designed to imitate “basically anything” on the internet. Image
8/ OpenAI's Sam Altman Disagrees

“We build our A.I. models using publicly available data, in a manner protected by fair use and related principles, and supported by longstanding and widely accepted legal precedents." Image
9/ OpenAI Transition to For-Profit Business

In September, it was announced that OpenAI was set to remove non-profit control and give Sam Altman equity as part of a larger transition to becoming a for-profit company — with tens of billions of dollars at stake. Image
10/ OpenAI’s Multibillion-Dollar Gambit

Balaji's death comes at a critical period for the now multi-billion dollar blockbuster company which now boasts hundreds of millions of users worldwide.

There's certainly a lot more details yet to surface — more updates to come. Image

Time for a little journalism 🧐:

Marc Andreessen promises to be a libertarian visionary, championing innovation and freedom in Trump’s administration. But his actions reveal a darker plan —one rooted in control, surveillance, and elite power. Let’s unpack his real agenda. 🧵1/ Image
2/ The story begins in 2017, when a mysterious group of Silicon Valley investors started quietly acquiring farmland in Solano County — a mostly rural area 60 miles northeast of San Francisco — spending nearly $1 billion over the course of several years to secure 55,000 acres. Image
3/ The shadowy group behind the land grab was Flannery Associates, backed by Silicon Valley elites like Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn), Laurene Powell Jobs (Steve Jobs’ widow), and Marc Andreessen (Andreessen Horowitz).

Their HQ: a rent-a-mailbox in a strip mall. 🤨 Image

Jeffrey Goldberg’s journey from IDF prison guard to editor-in-chief of The Atlantic is quite remarkable, but also incredibly suspicious and should raise some serious questions.🤔

Is his position in elite American media coincidental or is there more here than meets the eye? 🧵1/ Image
2/ A native of Brooklyn, raised on Long Island, Goldberg left student life at the University of Pennsylvania to move to Israel where he served as an IDF prison guard overseeing Palestinian detainees in Ktzi’ot Prison, a facility known for torture and sexual abuse. Image
Image
3/ He would later write a book called "Prisoners", about a friendship he developed with a Palestinian prisoner.

A New York Times review of the book: “Prisoners” tells us, eloquently, the complete and complex story of Jeffrey Goldberg’s love for Israel, but very little else."Image

The one-year anniversary of the October 7 is upon us — and Israel, its media puppets, and bought-and-paid-for politicians are still spewing shameless lies to justify a horrific genocide.

So, let’s tear apart the web of lies they’ve sold about October 7 once and for all. 🧵1/ Image
2/ 40 Beheaded Babies

On October 10 reporter Nicole Zedeck of i24 News, a pro-Israeli news channel, claimed that she saw 40 babies with their heads cut off. This claim spread quickly, fueled by major media outlets, Israeli officials, and even President Biden.

Except, no such thing happened according to numerous legacy publications, including CNN (which retracted their initial report), +972 Magazine, Le Monde, Business Insider (which cited Israeli officials retracting the claim), and Haaretz.

But the lie continues to be regurgitated to this day, most notably by Kamala Harris in her debate last month against Donald Trump.Image

3/ Mass Rape

Following the October 7 attack, Israel and its media allies pushed a narrative of mass rape by Hamas as a deliberate strategy. Major outlets like BBC and The New York Times amplified these unverified claims, all sourced from Israeli authorities.

Despite Israel's efforts, evidence for these claims has fallen apart, with families and witnesses denying the reports. Even the UN has called the sources unreliable.

This false narrative continues to be weaponized today to paint Hamas as monsters while deflecting from Israel's ongoing violence against Palestinians.Image

On June 8, 1967 Israel attacked the USS Liberty, killing 34 Americans and wounding 171. Israel said it was a case of "mistaken identity". The US also came to the same conclusion.

BUT, troves of evidence suggest the attack was premeditated—by both the US & Israel.

2/ Before we get into all the receipts, a little bit of history.

Israel's decisive win in the 1967 Six-Day War cemented its military dominance in the region. But the lead-up saw intense geopolitical maneuvering and rising tensions, including Soviet threats to back Arab nations. Image
3/ President Kennedy had maintained a balanced approach in the Middle East, voicing support for Israel while trying to maintain US neutrality in the region.

But after his assassination, President Lyndon Johnson took a much stronger stance in favor of Israel.

You may have heard about the man whose wife died from an allergic reaction at a Disney resort—only to have Disney block his right to a jury trial because he signed up for Disney+.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. Here’s what you need to know about forced arbitration. 🧵 1/ Image
2/ The Federal Arbitration Act, passed in 1925, was originally designed to help businesses resolve disputes outside court.

But over the decades, corporations have weaponized it to strip consumers and employees of their 7th Amendment right to a jury trial.
3/ Today, over 80% of consumer contracts include arbitration clauses, from phone services, banking, to buying a car.

And, 60 million US workers are now subject to mandatory arbitration (up from just 2% in the early 1990s), locking them out of public courts.
