He finally got him to do the podcast!

Get ready to hear the amazing story of Dr. Bernardo Huberman, one of the discoverers of chaos and @hubermanlab's dad.

Here are some of the best parts: Image
What is the quantum internet that Bernardo is working on at the moment?

•The basis of all secure interactions in the internet on computers are based on the idea that some mathematical equations or functions are very hard to resolve.

• They can still be broken, but it takes a lot of time.

• Quantum mechanics provide security that is not given by mathematics but by the laws of physics so they cannot be broken.

• What happens in quantum, stays in quantum: “In quantum, when you send you a quantum message, the act of touching it, trying to look at it, destroys it.” – Bernardo Huberman

• A quantum computer could decode any mathematical function of the ones used in encryption in hours so whoever gets this ability first can read all the information that’s being sent around the world.

• The Chinese are ahead of almost everybody: “They have two satellites already in orbit that are sending these qubits.”
Analog vs digital life:

• Bernardo warns young @hubermanlab about the internet: “It’s like mental chewing gum. You chew and chew, and at first it tastes good, then it doesn’t taste very good at all. Then you don’t taste it at all. And then you realize there’s no nutrition.”

• Bernardo likes to have an analog life, not a digital life: Riding a bicycle is analog. Walking is analog. Sitting and meditating is analogue

• He doesn’t like to think about what life is going to be like a hundred years from now. “I couldn’t care less about going to Mars, for instance, even though Elon Musk thinks it’s very important.”

He is not a big worrier. Meditation is a great tool for worry.

“I think that people are ingenious and wise enough to, to steer away from the brink, hopefully.”
Does Bernardo believe in God?

• He doesn’t believe in the idea of an agent that is somehow knowing what everybody on the planet is doing. But...

• There seems to be a sense of an organizing principle in the universe

• He finds pantheism appealing: God is in nature, and the universe is like an entity evolving, but not an entity that controls personal lives

• Sometimes people confuse randomness with premonition or God doing something. Trump dodging a bullet is an incredible thing, but it doesn’t mean there was someone telling him to do it
Bernardo was one of the discoverers of chaos in a number of physical systems:

• Since Newton’s time, we’ve understood that knowing the position and velocity of a particle allows precise predictions of its motion

• A rocket’s trajectory to the Moon can be calculated precisely

• Chaos challenges this by showing that tiny difference in initial conditions can take you to very different outcomes

“In classical mechanics, chaos is all about sensitivity to initial conditions.” – Bernardo

• Chaos exists in almost every physical system, even in neurons in the brain!

• 97% of women would rather meet a man in-person rather than online

• 95% of women wish they were approached more often by men in real life
2/ Men who claim they aren’t meeting women usually never approach women:

900+ hours of health and wellness podcasts in 10 posts:

🧵
1/ Incorporate physical activity into your day – here’s how:

• Take frequent walks/breaks
• Use a standing desk at work
• If you use public transportation, get off a stop or two before your destination to force yourself to walk a bit
• Take the stairs instead of the elevator
• Only take walking meetings

You can experience health benefits from doing a “disgustingly small” amount of exercise...

You do NOT need to go to the gym for 1-2 hours per day to experience exercise benefits.

Four minutes of vigorous exercise per day has been shown to decrease the risk of cancer incidents by 20%:

• Just 10 minutes of vigorous exercise per day showed a 30-40% decrease (!!)
• “Vigorous exercise” as in getting your heart rate +150 beats per minute for that period
2/ Sauna (4-7x per week at a temperature of 175 °F for 20 minutes):

• Reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease
• Reduces the risk of stroke
• Reduces the risk of sudden cardiac death
• Improves arterial compliance
• Reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease
• Enhances mood

• 95% of women wish they were approached more often by men in real life
2/ If you meet someone online, the first time you meet in person should be considered DATE ZERO.

It’s not a first date, it’s a vibe check.

How to turn date zero into another date:

• Be your authentic self
• Have her do 70% of the talking (increases her positive perception of the date)
• Don’t rifle through scripted questions, but ask questions that can be followed up
• A third of your effort should be making connections (shared interests and values)
• A third of your effort should be assessing if she a good fit for you
• A third of your effort should be flirting and having fun

The best sports autobiography I've ever read:

Open by @AndreAgassi

Hidden inside this gem is a mini-degree in sheer survival and emotional resilience

Here are 20 quotes that may change your life: Image
“Now that I've won a slam, I know something very few people on earth are permitted to know.

A win doesn't feel as good as a loss feels bad, and the good feeling doesn't last long as the bad. Not even close.”
“There are many ways of getting strong, sometimes talking is the best way.”
