Congress was moments away from passing a bipartisan funding agreement that would have helped our farmers, seniors, families, and small businesses – almost everybody.

Then, a billionaire & Trump said, “Nope, shut the government down.”

10 ways they just screwed you 🧵👇
1. Telehealth: Would’ve been expanded, making it easier for you to get healthcare. Not anymore.
2. Tickets: You were about to get full transparency on ticket pricing and refunds for concerts, hotels, you name it. No more hidden fees. Gone.
3. PBM Reform: 60 million seniors nationwide, 3 million in Ohio, and 135,000 in my district lost out on prescription drug cost savings.
4. Year-round E-15 Sales: You were about to save 20 cents per gallon on environmentally friendly fuel options.

This also would have helped our corn farmers, including those in my district in Warren County.
5. Relief for farmers. They would have received over $30B and a one-year extension of the Farm bill. That’s almost $450M for our farmers in Ohio.

That’s for farm commodity support, export programs, farm credit, crop insurance, and rural development. All of that – gone.
6. Disaster relief: $100B gone disaster relief – $1B in Ohio. This is all over the country -- communities desperately need this money.
7. Small businesses: Lost $2.5B to restore the Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program.
8. Child Care providers: Lost a half a billion dollars.
9. Infrastructure: $8B gone for fixing roads and bridges, including the Francis Key Scott Bridge.
10. AI Deep Fakes: Included in the bill were new protections against AI deep fakes that could have protected you.
With their shutdown, our TSA agents and air traffic controllers go without pay during the busiest travel season. Food will go uninspected, federal employees will go without pay, and there could be delays in passport processing, small business loans, and government benefits.
I’ve been in Congress for two years, I’ve seen a lot, and this is the most reckless I’ve ever seen them behave.

The solution: Ignore Musk and Trump. Pass the bipartisan bill, help our farmers and families…and enjoy the holidays.

A group of masked anti-Israel protesters assembled outside my home early Sunday morning and remained through the evening, forcing police to escort my family in and out of our house for safety.
🧵⬇️ Image
The protesters refuse to leave, setting up tents, cots, and sleeping bags in their encampment in the road, and are spending the night harassing my family outside our home.

It's not clear if or when they will leave.
On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the October 7th terror attacks, when Jews were brutally murdered and kidnapped, these people came to the home of a Jewish family at night, dressed in all black and fully masked.

Israel is at war with Hamas, but it is more awful and complicated than just that.

As we – including those of us in Congress – work to fully understand and productively navigate what is an unprecedented and horrific moment in Israel, I hope the following facts will help. (THREAD)
The shock, confusion, & trauma in Israel are similar to what we experienced in the hours & days following the terror attacks on 9/11. Arguably worse. For Israel, the death toll has risen to more than 1K. Adjusted for population, that would be as if we lost 40K Americans on 9/11.
Unprecedented Horror: The sheer number of those dead, missing, injured or being held hostage is staggering.

Defaulting on America is not an option.

It would be catastrophic: costing millions of Americans their jobs, driving up costs on all Americans, and undermining our national security.
Now, bipartisan and pragmatic leaders in Congress must avoid default and support a budget that protects Social Security, healthcare for Americans, and benefits for veterans.

The framework must also protect the most vulnerable Americans from the awfulness of poverty.
This is a terrible and reckless process. Folks are calling us panicked about their Social Security checks, whether or not they might lose their healthcare, and whether or not the economy would crash. People in Washington cannot continue to normalize this.
