imagine if in the middle of making Kimetsu no Yaiba Koyoharu Gotouge was shown the most brainless "shounenshit is SHIT" criticisms from 4chan, Twitter & Youtube by localizers then immediately went "oh god they're so right! I need to change EVERYTHING I do!" that's how bad this is Image
imagine Akira Toriyama listening to people who think DBZ Abridged is written better than his work and changing his entire writing philosophy based on that Image
it wasn't "sonic fans" since the actual kids sonic was supposed to be made for liked the "friends". they were listening to embarrassing adult "internet cynics"
I got groomed by this shit too when I was a tween/teen and I know for a fact it's cuz I was trying to make up for my "cringe" early internet presence

reminds me of old-ass 4chan arguments where people were trying to "own fedora atheists" by saying "lol, you're still mad you had to go to sunday school as a kid. arrested development much?" yeah forcing shit on kids is bad that's the point
I liked animals as a kid as much as I do now so the stuff I learned about em of my own accord stuck. learning for tests meanwhile was a robotic process "ok I'm gonna memorize this in order to pass then never think about it ever again" since school was so miserable
teachers were annoying, smug & unwilling to ever admit to being wrong at best & emotionally or outright physically abusive at worst. my grade school teacher had a good reputation as a "stern respectable father figure", turns out he was an absolute vile psycho

if gamers weren't stupid they'd be excited to get into cool game libraries that got overshadowed in the past, but instead we have a gaming culture that went #FUCKKKKONAMI!!!!!!! over the Turbografx/PC Engine Mini cuz "no one cares about this stupid system"
most aren't like Mike Matei who got into PC Engine & decided it's one of his favorite consoles in his late 30s/40s because he truly enjoys old games & wants to find more fun ones. it's about nostalgia and/or "retro chic" over games & systems already part of the anglophone "canon"
like yes I read "Sega's Western CEO" and my brain just registers it as "subhuman" but let's not pretend gamers aren't contributing to this too. "Matt McMuscles" says shit like "the Dreamcast had too much dated arcade design" & "there's no strategy in beat em ups" & he's e-famous.

chibi was probably only exposed to a VERY limited section of KLK's fanbase; from my perspective this feels like total revisionism. seeing this scene as fanservicey (it is) already made you a rape enabler, it was seen as a feminist statement on rape culture
I was on Tumblr when it aired. you had some "this is hot" comments for maybe a day, then the ass-covering narrative was formed & stuck. I remember even an "antisjw" account went go HOW FUCKING DARE YOU MAKE LIGHT OF THIS SERIOUS DEPICTION OF RAPE when I pointed out the obvious
youtube, GELBOORU top comments, all treated it this way

today though, Dandadan zoomers pretend the fanservice isn't there & psychotically harass those who point it out & make them look bad instead of going "actually it's feminist critique of objectification". LESS crazy in a way

the "centrist" approach to Goku's character that says "sure he wasn't Superman, but Toriyama went too far & made him too selfish, which clashes with his earlier characterization" still sounds like wanting Goku to be a traditional hero & grasping at straws
"why did Goku kill Staff Officer Black cuz he was a bad guy but let the ginyu force get away" cuz while yea he largely has a flat character arc he can still change over time in smaller ways. sure Toriyama didn't have the Saiyan shit in mind in the Red Ribbon arc but people change Image

it is technically well drawn but it def feels driven by "what if we made a shonen manga BUT with a black girl" as its main artistic goal, essentially "X but diverse", while sanding off the "problematic" aspects of the cultures it's trying to represent... cuz that's what it is Image
