buffy the vampire slayer? no thanks man im not into live action magical girl anime
prompted by trying out sailor moon (1992) and discovering that it seems to be buffy but way better

just watched Learn How to Be Skinny from Usagi! amazing stuff
four episodes in it seems to be a show about a positively feminine girl struggling with adolescence

unlike the (mostly) patriarchy coded antagonists of buffy sailor moon seems to be battling the forces of toxic femininity
each episode sees a demonic queen sending her gay vizier to entrap women with classic femmesnipes like weight loss or commercialized romance or fortune telling or jewelry, each of which is a plot to steal the lifeforce of the affected women (usually usagi's poor teacher)
usagi is more personable than buffy. her emotions are felt object level and not flattened by chronic irony poisoning. usagi's writers are not afraid to clown on their character in the way buffy's were. sailor moon knows teenage girls are ridiculous and loves them for it
no one watched buffy for buffy. i hope the supporting cast negotiated free medical coverage for the rest of their lives because it could not have been good for their backs carrying that entire show for seven seasons

the number of posts ive seen like this is genuinely shocking to me and makes me more inclined to support obnoxious immigration restrictions tbqh

something is going very badly wrong with integration if this is a common expressive response among indians
i have seen a Lot of shit like this including from longtime mutuals and its pretty depressing

eyeballing it seems more common from first gen than second gen which suggests some combination of integration is working and newer immigrant waves are different (worse)
im reluctantly coming around to broad and aggressive immigration restrictions for a generation just to let the people already here integrate and for all this shit to settle out into a new ethnic detente because the status quo is just not working

first: my track record. ive previously criticized tiresome woke academic work by tiresome woke academics here

this, not just in quantitative but literary fields; and not just about the work itself but about what it represents

i was fairly aggressive toward the entire career of the scholar in question

was this too much? i don't think so

imo it was warranted by the contemporary social implications of her literary criticism of an innocent work as "[racist]," if nothing else

i think i would explain the intuition of the formulas using integration but i'm not sure that's quite right, maybe it's just a restatement

"area" and "volume" are superficially totally intuitive to me but i don't know how to better formalize them Image
here's a line. it's x units long. we're going to drag it along a flat surface in a direction perpendicular to its length for y units. "area" is "how much" of the surface we dragged the line over.

"1 unit squared" is what we get when we drag a 1 unit line for one unit.
if we make the line 3 units long, and drag it for 1 unit, it covers 3 times as much as the the 1 unit long line would have.

same thing if we drag the 1 unit line for 3 units.

if we drag a 3u line for 2u, it covers as much as the 3u line dragged 1u and then 1u again: 2u*3u=6u^2
