A 26 year-old ex-OpenAI engineer. Whistleblower in major lawsuits. Billions at stake. Dead under mysterious circumstances — suicide or foul play?
Here’s everything we know so far about the tragic death of Suchir Balaji — and the many questions that demand answers.
Mega 🧵1/
2/ AI for Good?
Suchir Balaji joined OpenAI in 2020, believing in its potential to do good. But over time became concerned over its use of copyrighted material to train AI. He left in August 2024 and two months later, publicly accused OpenAI of violating U.S. copyright laws.
3/ His Final Warning:
On Oct 23, 2024, Suchir Balaji dropped a bombshell revelation that threatens not just OpenAI’s financial future but the entire profit-driven AI industry — a proof that ChatGPT pulls up to 94% of its responses from copyrighted sources.
More on this later.
4/ An "Apparent Suicide"
Less than a month later, Balaji was dead.
According to the SFPD, officers went to Balaji’s SF apartment for a wellness check and upon arrival, they found a deceased male. The medical examiner's office concluded "no evidence of foul play".
5/ But the "crime scene" told a different story:
- Multiple pools of blood, suggesting movement or a struggle
- Hair under the bathroom door
- Displaced items: floss, earbuds, a toppled trashcan
- No suicide note
Does this sound like suicide to you?
6/ The Days Proceeding
Days before his death, Suchir celebrated his 26th birthday on a trip to Catalina Island with friends. He was described as upbeat, sharing plans for a new AI startup. He spoke with his parents hours before his death.
Nothing seemed amiss.
7/ The Prevailing Theory
Here is investigative journalist @RealGeorgeWebb1, who was on-site at Balaji's apartment, describing how Suchir may have been struck from behind before being forced to kneel in his bathroom, and then ultimately shot at point blank range.
8/ A Missing Backup Drive
Balaji’s laptop and backup drive — potential key evidence for lawsuits against OpenAI were seized by SFPD. Why would suicide warrant confiscation of such devices?
Reports also suggest his apartment was ransacked. Was someone searching for that drive?
9/ If there’s a murder, there must be a motive.🤔
Could Balaji’s death be tied to the booming AI industry? Did his whistleblowing threaten OpenAI or other global rivals? Who stood to lose billions — or even trillions — if his evidence surfaced? 👇
10/ Sam Altman & OpenAI
Balaji’s whistleblowing focused on ChatGPT’s use of copyrighted data. As OpenAI shifts to for-profit, lawsuits by the @nytimes and others alleged copyright violations that, if proven, could cost billions and cripple its dominance in the AI market.
11/ The Global AI Battle
Balaji’s whistleblowing threatened more than OpenAI — it exposed practices like data scraping that power rivals like China’s Deep Seek.
With trillions at stake in the AI race, was silencing him a way to protect the industry’s secrets and its profits?
12/ The final question: Is the SFPD compromised?
They ruled Balaji’s death a suicide almost instantly, seized key devices, and withheld evidence. With Sam Altman on SF’s mayoral transition team, are Big Tech and AI interests squashing the investigation?
13/ The Fight Isn't Over
Credit to @RealGeorgeWebb1 for shedding light on this case and to Suchir’s brave parents, @RaoPoornima and @nspicker101, for their courage in seeking the truth. We owe it to them — and to Suchir — to see this through and demand justice.

Gavin Newsom claims $24B for homelessness went "missing".
Well, I found evidence of CA officials possibly, allegedly, embezzling hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars through a sketchy Cayman Islands group! 🧐
🧵1/
2/ In response to an April 2024 audit which exposed that California did not know how money going to solving homelessness was being spent, Gov. Newsom responded by stating the results “did not surprise” him, but added that California has taken part in “unprecedented investments”.
3/ What kinds of "unprecedented investments" you might ask?
Well, this is where things start to get sketchy.
Enter Todd Gloria, the Mayor of San Diego, who has been on a tear — making housing deal after housing deal — which he claims will "address homelessness."
🚨🚨 Breaking: OpenAI whistleblower, Suchir Balaji, a 26-year old researcher, was found DEAD in his San Francisco apartment. Here's what we know about the circumstances surrounding his death, and the allegations he made against Sam Altman's blockbuster AI company.

2/ An "Apparent Suicide"
According to the SFPD: Officers and medics went to Balaji’s at 1:15 p.m. on November 26 for a wellness check. When they arrived on scene, they located a deceased adult male and "no evidence of foul play was found during the initial investigation.”
3/ A Key Witness
Balaji’s death comes three months after he publicly accused OpenAI of violating U.S. copyright law while developing ChatGPT.
Information he held was expected to play a key part in lawsuits against the San Francisco-based company.
Marc Andreessen promises to be a libertarian visionary, championing innovation and freedom in Trump’s administration. But his actions reveal a darker plan —one rooted in control, surveillance, and elite power. Let’s unpack his real agenda. 🧵1/
2/ The story begins in 2017, when a mysterious group of Silicon Valley investors started quietly acquiring farmland in Solano County — a mostly rural area 60 miles northeast of San Francisco — spending nearly $1 billion over the course of several years to secure 55,000 acres.
3/ The shadowy group behind the land grab was Flannery Associates, backed by Silicon Valley elites like Reid Hoffman (LinkedIn), Laurene Powell Jobs (Steve Jobs’ widow), and Marc Andreessen (Andreessen Horowitz).
Jeffrey Goldberg’s journey from IDF prison guard to editor-in-chief of The Atlantic is quite remarkable, but also incredibly suspicious and should raise some serious questions.🤔
Is his position in elite American media coincidental or is there more here than meets the eye? 🧵1/
2/ A native of Brooklyn, raised on Long Island, Goldberg left student life at the University of Pennsylvania to move to Israel where he served as an IDF prison guard overseeing Palestinian detainees in Ktzi’ot Prison, a facility known for torture and sexual abuse.
3/ He would later write a book called "Prisoners", about a friendship he developed with a Palestinian prisoner.
A New York Times review of the book: “Prisoners” tells us, eloquently, the complete and complex story of Jeffrey Goldberg’s love for Israel, but very little else."
The one-year anniversary of the October 7 is upon us — and Israel, its media puppets, and bought-and-paid-for politicians are still spewing shameless lies to justify a horrific genocide.
So, let’s tear apart the web of lies they’ve sold about October 7 once and for all. 🧵1/
2/ 40 Beheaded Babies
On October 10 reporter Nicole Zedeck of i24 News, a pro-Israeli news channel, claimed that she saw 40 babies with their heads cut off. This claim spread quickly, fueled by major media outlets, Israeli officials, and even President Biden.
Except, no such thing happened according to numerous legacy publications, including CNN (which retracted their initial report), +972 Magazine, Le Monde, Business Insider (which cited Israeli officials retracting the claim), and Haaretz.
But the lie continues to be regurgitated to this day, most notably by Kamala Harris in her debate last month against Donald Trump.
3/ Mass Rape
Following the October 7 attack, Israel and its media allies pushed a narrative of mass rape by Hamas as a deliberate strategy. Major outlets like BBC and The New York Times amplified these unverified claims, all sourced from Israeli authorities.
Despite Israel's efforts, evidence for these claims has fallen apart, with families and witnesses denying the reports. Even the UN has called the sources unreliable.
This false narrative continues to be weaponized today to paint Hamas as monsters while deflecting from Israel's ongoing violence against Palestinians.
On June 8, 1967 Israel attacked the USS Liberty, killing 34 Americans and wounding 171. Israel said it was a case of "mistaken identity". The US also came to the same conclusion.
BUT, troves of evidence suggest the attack was premeditated—by both the US & Israel.

2/ Before we get into all the receipts, a little bit of history.
Israel's decisive win in the 1967 Six-Day War cemented its military dominance in the region. But the lead-up saw intense geopolitical maneuvering and rising tensions, including Soviet threats to back Arab nations.
3/ President Kennedy had maintained a balanced approach in the Middle East, voicing support for Israel while trying to maintain US neutrality in the region.
But after his assassination, President Lyndon Johnson took a much stronger stance in favor of Israel.
