I’m not watching the inauguration. My son is off school for MLK Day, and other than a few emails and a TV hit, I’m spending the day with him.
I’m not going to let these people rob me of any ounce of joy during these four years. I’m going to fight, but not at the expense of my health and my family.
I encourage you to do the same. We have a lot of work ahead to stop the worst of what’s coming and to elect more and better Democrats who can help us take back Congress, the White House, and legislatures nationwide. But each of us needs to prioritize protecting our health and our families first.
During Trump’s first term, I became a workaholic. I neglected my health, ballooned up over 600 pounds, and nearly killed myself. I wasn’t the husband, father, or leader I needed to be. That’s not happening again. I won’t let it.
To borrow a phrase from the old boss, I’m going to be a joyful warrior for the next four years. I’ll fight and do the work, but I’m also going to enjoy life, my family, my friends, and all of you. I hope you can find your way there too because we need you at your best.
Stay safe and be smart if you’re out there organizing, especially if you’re in Chicago for any immigration raid stunts they’re planning today.
Turn off the TV if you can, and put your phone down. There’s only so much you can control, and doomscrolling is bad for you.
Love ya. ✌️

Since a lot of folks (including current Dem members of Congress) apparently have no idea what the DNC Chair does, I put together a quick thread.
Let’s start with what it’s NOT 🔽
The DNC Chair is not a solution to every problem the party faces.
❌ They don’t pick candidates or control primaries.
❌ They don’t set policy for the party.
❌ They don’t write laws or change election rules.
Now, here’s what the DNC Chair does do:
1. Raise money—lots of it. The DNC Chair serves as the chief fundraiser, ensuring Democrats have the resources to compete. This includes overseeing the digital fundraising program, coordinating fundraisers, making donor calls, mail, and much more.
I just listened to the Pod Save America episode with VP Harris' leadership team, reflecting on what went wrong in the 2024 presidential election. Here are some quick thoughts on what stood out to me. 🧵
First, they talked about Harris not wanting to differentiate herself from Biden. Her loyalty to him is admirable, and I appreciate it deeply. But in a change election, that likely cost her more voters than it gained.
Voters were looking for change, and we didn’t represent that. Instead, we were framed as an extension of policies (or perceived policies) that people were angry about. That’s a hard sell with inflation as it was, no matter how strong the candidate or campaign was.
