Since you mention it:

In 1954, members of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party shot 5 Congressmen during an immigration debate on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.

Jimmy Carter commuted their lifetime prison sentences in 1979. (1/8) Image
These convictions prompted a Puerto Rican nationalist bombing campaign.

Bill Clinton pardoned most of the perpetrators in 1999, but was rejected by Oscar Lopez Rivera. Rivera received a second pardon from Barack Obama and a personal performance of “Hamilton” in his honor. (2/8) Image

In 1971 the Weather Underground detonated a bomb in a bathroom below the US Senate to protest American military operations in Laos.

Nobody was ever arrested for this act. Bill Ayers, one of the ringleaders, went on to become a close friend and mentor to Barack Obama. (3/8) Image
Ayres and his wife Bernadine Dohrn, another Weather Underground leader, both became university professors. Ayres got a taxpayer-funded position at University of Illinois.

Mention of Ayres’ ties to Obama during the 2008 presidential campaign were denounced as racist. (4/8) Image
Ayres and Dohrn also raised former San Francisco DA Chesa Boudin, son of Weathermen David Gilbert and Kathy Boudin (who had been convicted of murdering 3 people during a robbery).

Andrew Cuomo commuted Gilbert’s sentence in 2021. Boudin became a professor at Columbia. (5/8) Image

In 1983, other Weathermen affiliates involved in the Boudin killings again bombed the US Senate (as well as several other government buildings) in protest of American military actions in Lebanon and Grenada.

Bill Clinton pardoned the perpetrators on his last day in office. (6/8) Image
One of the perpetrators, Susan Rosenberg, went on to become a professional activist. She joined the board of a Black Lives Matter charity and obtained a taxpayer-funded position at City University of New York. (7/8) Image

On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump pardoned a number of people charged with crimes related to the January 6 riot at the US Capitol.

This act was widely described as “unprecedented.” None of the individuals pardoned have yet received a taxpayer-funded professorship. (8/8) Image

“Does anyone argue that India would be better off on British rule?”

Every Indian who emigrates to the West is implicitly admitting that they are better off under Western government, yes.
Liberal postcolonialists have a hard time squaring their nominal commitments to material wellbeing and democratic governance/rule of law with their support for nationalist movements that undermine both of these values in practice. Mostly, they just ignore the contradiction
The truth is that European colonial governance provided almost all the goods that liberals supposedly care about better than the natives ever have, and the basis for opposing it always amounts in fact to narcissistic racial grievance and ego injury

Now that people are getting sentenced for peacefully protesting on January 6th, and the establishment is calling Trump’s promise to pardon them “an unprecedented danger to our democracy,” I decided to do some fact-checking…

A brief history of attacks on the US Capitol:
Image
In 1954, members of the Puerto Rican Nationalist Party - which had previously attempted to assassinate Harry Truman - shot 5 congressmen during an immigration debate on the floor of the US House.

Jimmy Carter commuted their effective life sentences, releasing them in 1979 Image
These convictions were themselves the basis for a subsequent FALN bombing campaign.

Bill Clinton pardoned most of the perpetrators in 1999, but was rejected by Oscar Lopez Rivera, who later received a pardon from Barack Obama and a personal performance of "Hamilton" in his honor

Normie friends decided to stream new Borat movie and it’s honestly a transcendent piece of art for the age. entire thing is unintentional self-parody of prog worldview. just endless paranoia, unearned condescension, and thinly suppressed rage.
Literally whole plot is that Borat needs to deliver a gift to Trump so that he will recognize Kazakhstan as a fellow corrupt dictatorship. they created fake Disney animations complete with small penis joke about Melania getting married to Trump for his money
Pretense of documentary is still there despite everything being obviously scripted. jokes rely on audience suspending disbelief that they aren’t just watching actors play out crude shitlib fantasy of nazi drumpf supporters

The guy who made Borat leveraging a career built on contemptuous race and class based mockery into demands for zero-tolerance censorship of ethnic humor was a far more incisive parody of western society than anything his attempts at comedy ever produced
It is time to repost my Borat 2 thread

Oliver Anthony is the first White affirmative action hire - rare actual example of a “mediocre white man” who has been “promoted for being white.” Like many affirmative action hires, he is ignorant of the reason for his own success and thinks it entitles him to be taken seriously Image
Oliver Anthony insisting you treat his stilted rhyme about fat welfare queens as high poetry that can’t be reduced to some crude partisan message is same phenomenon as “Dr.” Jill Biden demanding you list her credential on the basis of a Michelle Obama-tier education school thesis Image
It’s apropos that this happened during “white identity” discussion because although denying the existence of white people except to attack them is of course a bad faith rhetorical trick, this is what logical conclusion of something like “White Entertainment Television” looks like

I took adderall and watched Oppenheimer in a Black movie theatre. For first 5 minutes there was usual commentary...movie opens with nuclear fireball dream sequence- "oh shiiiiii...das da bomb mang...das da BOMB" but it was so good even they eventually shut up. Here's my review: Image
Oppenheimer is a deeply Straussian movie about the political persecution of great men under small-souled bureaucratic tyranny. It is also a deeply Christian movie about the solitary nature of martyrdom as contrasted with the pharisaical performance the masses imagine it to be Image
The movie has a superficial left-wing message. Oppenheimer was persecuted for (real) association with communists. But it's impossible to make a smart movie about getting cancelled through guilt by association in 2023 without some sense of irony. It’s a subtly reactionary subject Image
