With negotiations between HTS and SDF currently pending and until now not really going anywhere, Ilham Ahmad (a PKK veteran) is trying to get Israel involved, it seems. m.jpost.com/middle-east/ar…
'Kurdish-dominated' should be 'PYD-dominated'. The Syrian Kurds are divided and the PYD only controls because they have the weapons. Most Syrian Kurds do not support them. About half of them fled the area and the silent exodus continues, until now.
@Jerusalem_Post
@Jerusalem_Post This is only partially true, for Deir Ezzor mainly.
In other parts or adjacent parts, but within northeastern Syria, Iran and the Lebanese Hezbollah operated freely and expanded:
Tal Rifaat, Qamishli Airport, the area south of Qamishli, Hasaka City come to mind.
@Jerusalem_Post While we're at it, I've always been surprised that the Israelis opposed the liberation of Tal Rifaat, while the YPG/SDF allowed Iran in, SDC leaders visited Iranians in Nubl & Zahra, Iranian-backed militias were on the front lines with the SDF in that area
Ilham Ahmad warns that HTS will take the whole rule of Syria, but on the same time wants the SDF to have some involvement in leading the whole new Syrian army.
My cautious prediction. After this interview, the chance of an agreement between HTS and SDF decreased further. Note that the majority of SDF personnel are Arabs. And the vast majority are forced conscripts, Kurds & Arabs.
Some (highly) problematic points with this map: 1/ The Arab Tal Abyad and the majority Arab Ras al-Ayn are green, not yellow. 2/ Deraa is green, the majority Suwayda has not indicated that they want to break up, right? 3/ Tanf is green. 4/ And 70% of current SDF areas are Arab:
Deir Ezzor: 100% Arab, while the oil reserves are used for the benefits of the PKK, not to develop Deir Ezzor, for example: not in hospitals, schools, infrastructure, etc. And Deiris are not even allowed by the Self-Administration to just travel to a hospital in Qamishli f.i.
What happens in East Deir Ezzor always reminds me most of what happens in the occupied West Bank. Deiris also regard the PKK-led SDF as (foreign) occupiers.
Fact check: YPG/SDF let Iran into Tel Rifaat, Iranian-backed militias into Inab and other front lines. Plus the SDF spox said they are not willing to fight against Iranian militias. Etc.
Occupied criminals = locals.
The lies of the YPG are as wild as those of the regime.
Things are heating up rapidly in North/Northeast Syria. If the locals, Deiri tribes, lose this, the repression of the YPG (PKK leadership incl. Mazloum Abdi using his PKK name) will be even worse.
🧵 Today will be an interesting day in the Netherlands regarding the Netherlands & Syria.
In about an hour, the Committee of Inquiry regarding the non-lethal assistance (NLA) programme in Syria, will present its findings, also online here in English, عربي commissiecammaert.nl
1/ Have Dutch officials secretly helped to establish a caliphate in Syria?
In Azaz in particular, the cradle of the Northern Storm brigade عاصفةالشمال, the only brigade in al-Jabha al-Shamiya الجبهة الشامية/Levant Front which received NLA from the Dutch?
2/ In September 2018, the Netherlands was shaken by news items brought to the world by @Trouw and @Nieuwsuur that the Dutch govt was supposed to have supported a terrorist-jihadist movement, al-Jabha al-Shamiya / Levant Front الجبهة الشامية in Syria.
