Let me suggest, that this is not billionaires bowing down to Trump, in withdrawing their support for climate action. As I have repeatedly explained at great length, it is the billionaires who have been blocking climate action. Most or all of them.
Billionaires, the WEF, were never backing climate action, they were pretending to back action, to try and control the agenda, because climate action, threatened their vested interests. So the best way to stop that, was to pretend to be in favour of climate action.
2/
You have zero influence over climate action and policy, if you openly deny the climate crisis, unless you gain total power over the whole system. However, if you are very rich, and you pretend to support climate action, you can involve yourself in the framing of policy.
3/
I am amazed at how stupid the extreme right are, in claiming that the drive for climate action comes from the WEF, Bill Gates etc. These are the very people opposing effective climate action, and they're just trying to control the agenda for their own ends.
4/
With a climate change denier like Trump in control, wrecking international agreement on addressing the climate crisis, there's simply no need for the rich and powerful to pretend they care about climate action. When Trump is totally blocking climate action.
5/
Anyone who believes that the WEF, Bill Gates, etc, genuinely cared about climate action, are living in cloud-cuckoo-land. This pretend concern, was only ever about trying to get control of the agenda, to protect their vested interests. Now they have no need to pretend.
6/
Billionaires are the biggest obstacle to climate action on the face of the Earth. They caused the climate crisis, and have been surreptitiously blocking climate action all along. Putting off immediate action.
7/
There may be a few billionaires that have some genuine concerns. However, if there are, they are like hen's teeth, and they will only support action in a limited way, as long as it doesn't compromise their vested interests.
8/
If any rich and powerful person was genuinely concerned about the climate and ecological crisis, they would putting all their wealth and power on the line, to protect and support climate activists, buying up land to protect it. Where is that happening.
9/
Take the British Royal Family, and the biggest fake climate concerned billionaire, King Charles. He's so concerned about climate change, that he's just bought 2 new swanky helicopters to fly around everywhere. What sacrifices, has he ever made?
Ah, that's it, on a PR TV documentary, he told us how he'd converted his old Aston Martin, to run on wine and cheese. Whilst he flies everywhere in jets and helicopters, just for him. Whilst living in great palaces consuming vast amounts of power.
11/
At COP talks, at the WEF's Davos, event, you've never seen so many private jets. You would have to be a very stupid person, to think they wanted to address the climate crisis, with real action.
As I keep trying to tell everyone, the very rich and powerful are not trying to impose climate action on everyone, they are trying to stop climate action, and were trying to get control of the agenda, by pretending to be concerned about the climate crisis.
13/
As I have been desperately trying to get across for a long time, look at my threads, I have been trying to explain, how they have been blocking climate action, and how it is almost invisible. They just block all action now, and say, but we'll do it in the future.
14/
That's what they were saying at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, 33 years ago. They were saying, just not yet, we will take action, we will have taken it by 20-30 years in the future (that's now in the past, and where is that action?).
This is how you block climate action. You pretend to be concerned about climate action, so you get involved in formulating climate policy. Then, once you have got control of the agenda, you say, we won't implement action now, but 30 years in the future.
16/
Then when you get 30 years in the future, you push the action off for another 30 years. Net Zero by 2050 anyone. Remember the rich and powerful were promising climate action in 20-30 years time, at the 1992 Rio Earth Summit.
17/
It was obvious in 1992, that we needed climate action, big emissions reductions immediately not in the future. Do bear in mind, that I had been environmentally aware for 22 years in 1992, and was just starting my ecology degree. I remember it well.
18/
This is what I argued in 1992. Any politician promising climate action, but not until 20-30 years in the future, was simply lying. Because if they were telling the truth, why not take the action then?
It was clearly a strategy, for eternal procrastination.
19/
The reason governments, the rich and powerful, have put on their performative display of wanting to address the climate crisis, is because as is the case now, a large proportion of the global population was concerned about the climate crisis.
The most obvious way of curbing the climate crisis, is to stop the excesses of the top 1% who produce more emissions than the bottom 66%. The top 1% didn't want this, so they put themselves in charge of addressing the climate crisis.
"Trump officials try to walk back president’s comments on Gaza ‘takeover’ – live"
This is not surprising, and it illustrates everything I have been trying to get across about Trump, today, and in the past. Trump just makes shit up, without thinking.
Trump just appears to have made this Gaza stuff up, off the top off his head, and even Netanyahu, doesn't seem to have known much about it.
People will wrongly assume, that being POTUS that this had already been worked out. No, Trump just made it up off the top of his head.
2/
We see this a lot from Trump. When Trump was talking in the aftermath, of the LA wildfires, he started making shit up about sweeping the forest floors, like they do in Finland. Except this nonsense had already been dealt with in 2018.
In the madness unleashed by Trump, pretty much what I predicted but faster, the unfathomable greyness of Starmer in the UK (who is he working for?), the other dreadful lack of leadership, with all ignoring the climate crisis, I ponder what to say about it all.
1/
The BIG thing that stands out to me, is the total lack of any coherent response or analysis of what is going on, and our way out of it.
I don't really blame people, because we have been buried under a mountain, of disinformation, outright lies and monumental gaslighting.
2/
There are a 1001 takes on this. But all these only address some small aspects at best, and most of it is obvious.
In no rational world, should the halfwit with more money than sense, be playing a role in anything.
3/
Trump's war on woke and DEI, is a dangerous performative distraction of a would be dictator and demagogue.
As many have pointed out, woke culture does not really exist, it is a fabrication of the extreme right. A fabricated straw man scapegoat.
1/🧵
It is the feature of all malignant, dictator demagogues, of both the right and the left, that they invent non-existent enemies and conspiracy theories, to wage war against those who oppose them, on false grounds, and to give themselves, enormous power.
2/
You will not find a single dictator in the whole of human history, who has not fabricated a non-existent enemy conspiracy theory to wage war against those who oppose them. This has resulting in horrific purges, and millions being killed. It is dangerous beyond belief.
3/
I realize that many others have suggested this, which is why I am suggesting it, and it could work. However, it is the implementation, which will need to be worked out, for it to succeed.
I cannot see it working with conventional political parties. 1/
Most conventional mainstream political parties, seem to be vehemently opposed to wealth taxes, for reasons that are not all obvious, aside from neoliberal doctrine, which they all deny having, and they have too much affinity with the top 1%.
2/
It would seem, that it is something to do with an undeclared (probably neoliberal doctrine), that sees low taxes on the wealthiest, as necessary for economic growth. Or maybe they just are the most generous to our politicians.
3/
I'm now starting to think, that the only solution to the predicament we are in, is a highly focused campaign to place progressive taxes on the top 1%, with the highest levels being on the very top, the billionaires, to tax them out of existence.
1/🧵
Without removing the malignant influence of the oligarchs, and their ability to corrupt and manipulate our societies, with their stupendous wealth, we'll only ever get the oligarch agenda. Then afterwards, we'll be on a level playing field, without this manipulation.
2/
What I'm talking about is a new political direction, and temporary party, with the simple aim of neutralizing the undue influence of the very rich, by reducing their wealth, to more modest levels, to remove their malign influence.
3/
