Quote: "I look to Brussels, where EU Commisars warn citizens that they intend to shut down social media during times of civil unrest, the moment they spot what they've judged to be hateful content."
That's a whopper of a distortion of EU law, that no serious person should make.
Link to the EU law is below, I'll discuss it in the next tweet.
Regulation (EU) 2022/2065 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 19 October 2022 on a Single Market For Digital Services and amending Directive 2000/31/EC (Digital Services Act)
The EU can't shutdown social media when "they spot hateful content."
If they could there'd be no social media, which is a giant cesspit of hatred. 🤷♂️
Article 51.3(b) says they could restrict access if sites fail to delete criminal content threatening the murder of other humans.
Quote: "In this country (Germany) where police have carried out raids against citizens suspected of posting anti-feminist comments online, as part of 'combating misogyny on the internet, a day of action.'"
Unbelievable distortion of what happened in Germany on March 7th, 2024.
Police didn't raid people for posting "anti-feminist" comments.
They arrested 45 men for offences, including the following:
-Threatening rape.
-Threatening to post nude photos of an ex.
-Demanding nude photos from strangers.
-Distributing videos depicting torture of women.
Bundeskriminalamt (BKR) is the name for the Federal Criminal Police Office of Germany.
BKR's raids were timed to mark International Women's Day last year.
They didn't arrest a single person for "anti-feminist comments", they arrested men for horrible criminal offences.
Quote: "In Sweden, two weeks ago, the government convicted a Christian activist for participating in Quran burnings."
The Swedish government (Riksdag) can't convict anybody. 🤦♂️
Swedish courts independent of the government under Chapter 11, Section 3 of their 1974 Constitution.
Chief Judge Göran Lundahl fined Salwan Najem 4,000kr (£297 / €356 / $374) with a conditional sentence.
Chapter 16, Section 8 of the 1962 Swedish Criminal Code (Brottsbalk) is below.
It's a crime to express contempt against a group of persons, due to their religious beliefs.
Quote: "Most concerningly I look to our dear friends the United Kingdom, where the British government charged a 51-year-old physio and army veteran, with the "heinous crime" of silently praying 50 meters from an abortion clinic."
Dear friends tend not to lie about each other.
Firstly, the "British Government" didn't charge him with a crime and silently praying is not a criminal offence.
He was given a £100 Fixed Penalty Notice by police, on the day of the incident.
Bournemouth City Council took him to court when he refused to pay the fine.
Charge was "failing to comply with Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) under the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014."
Breached by where he deliberately chose to stand and what time he chose to stand there.
A little later in the day, or elsewhere, no problem.
Quote: "The Scottish government began distributing letters to citizens, whose houses lay within safe access zones, warning them that private prayer, even within their own homes, may amount to breaking the law."
No they didn't. 😂😂😂
Straight-up lie.
The law is titled the Abortion Services (Safe Access Zones) (Scotland) Act 2024.
The full act is below and doesn't take very long to read.
There's nothing whatsoever in that Scottish legislation that criminalises private prayer in your own home.
Mary Clarke (40) shot dead by her estranged husband on February 20th, 1993.
Heartbroken sister, Margaret Eyre, after sentencing:
"For him it's much cheaper than divorce. He'll be out in 2 years and won't have to do paperwork. Women get the worst of it."
A thread on that. /1
Bear in mind reading this thread these are headline sentences for manslaughter.
Quite often a 2-year-sentence in the 1980's would effectively mean serving 10 months.
I won't have space to discuss each case individually so I'll briefly discuss the most common defences involved.
The majority of defences can be found in these misogynistic categories:
1. Infidelity i.e. "she cheated on me, so I killed her." 2. Nagging i.e. "she was never happy, so I..." 3. Humiliation i.e. "she always made me look bad" 4. Custody i.e. "tried to take the kids off me."
Fiona Campbell (15) was murdered on August 21st, 1986 at 18 Leaper Street, Derby.
I was extremely sad researching her death, just found it beyond heartbreaking on every conceivable level.
I wrote a few words about her life, her family, and the unfairness of her death. /1
CW: Sexual assault.
I try to write these threads to remember the victim, and not to focus too much on the perpetrator.
It's just not easy to tell the story without mentioning what happened at the end, so if that topic is too upsetting it'd be better to stop reading here.
Fiona was born on May 18th, 1971, the 3rd child of the family.
Her mother, Elizabeth (Lil), brought Fiona home to her older brother, Sam, and older sister, Anita.
On May 28th, aged 10 days old, Fiona's heart stopped working properly and she was rushed to Bristol Hospital.
Hard to say if this video represents the dumbest thing Pepper has ever said or just the dumbest thing today.
Mostly due to the sheer volume of dumb things he says.
He doesn't seem to have any understanding of tripartite separation of powers, or how anything works in Ireland.
Quote from Pepper: "Vote for me this Friday if you want him gone. Nolan, get your bags packed, your days are numbered!"
If you fancy voting for a lad with the intelligence of a brick, I suppose do that. 😂
Just know there is nothing whatsoever he can do to "get rid of Nolan."
Article 35.4.1 of the Constitution allows for a removal of a judge for "stated misbehaviour or incapacity" by passing resolutions in the Dáil and Seanad.
No judge has ever been removed by this process.
A few judges were threatened with it and resigned e.g. Sheedy fiasco.
