Short history of male belly dancers
During the Ottoman Empire, male belly dancers, known as köçek (young male dancers) or zenne, became prominent, especially between the 17th and 19th centuries.
1) Image
At this time, social norms often restricted women from performing publicly, so boys and young men stepped into these roles, particularly in the courts and urban entertainment settings.
2)
Egypt, male dancers known as khawal emerged as counterparts to female ghawazi performers, especially after the 1834 ban on public female dancing by Muhammad Ali Pasha. These men mimicked female styles, performing in streets and cafes, and were celebrated by local audiences.
3)
Bacha bazi (Persian/Pashto for "boy play") is a practice from Central Asia, notably Afghanistan, where young boys—often impoverished or enslaved—are dressed in feminine clothing and trained to dance for older men, typically warlords or wealthy patrons.

A Mudar Zahran video is making the rounds. I reject it. This is why.

Mudar Zahran, a Jordanian-Palestinian activist living in the UK and self-proclaimed leader of the "Jordanian Opposition Coalition," and
1)
Khaled Abu Toameh, a respected Israeli-Arab journalist formerly with The Jerusalem Post, became embroiled in a significant dispute starting around 2013. The tension escalated when Zahran began a campaign of personal attacks against Abu Toameh,
2)
accusing him of being a mouthpiece for Jordan’s King Abdullah II and undermining Zahran’s credibility. Zahran’s allegations included claims that Abu Toameh received bribes (like an expensive car from a Jordanian intelligence official) and

Roger Froikin @rlefraim wrote, "LEARNING FROM THE AMALEQ STORY

People try to make the Torah about history. They argue dates. They use it to affirm or condemn. But Torah is what it means - Instruction.
1)
We learn from the narrative, from the stories, we learn from its approach to history, from the laws it includes.

And we can learn from the story of Amaleq.

The People were told to destroy Amaleq, to wipe them out, even their property, even their livestock.
2)
Now what does all that mean and what does it mean for us today ?

We have to look at the fact that the people were not to benefit in any way from the destruction of Amaleq. No spoils taken, though spoils taking was the general practice in war at the time.

On the summit of Mount Sinai, Moshe is given detailed instructions on how to construct this dwelling for HaShem so that it can be easily dismantled, transported, and reassembled as the people move from place to place in the desert.

Roger Froikin @rlefraim wrote, "AND WHY REMEMBER?

Some time ago, Both Bat Zion Susskind-Sacks and I posted articles about remembering and not forgetting, both of us taking our start from the Weekend’s Torah Reading of Parsha Zachor.
1)
(Literally “remember”) REMEMBER, BECAUSE OUR MEMORIES DEFINE US.

René Descartes wrote Cogito Ergo Sum- I think, therefore I am.

He might have added a second line about life.

MEMIENS ME QUIS EGO SUM. - Remembering makes me who I am.
2)
It’s really not complicated. Everything we are is the sum total of our experiences, our memories, things we have done, things that have happened to us, our upbringing by our families, the culture we live in, its philosophies, its literature, its religions & its politics.

1. Thankfully, Canada is more than Justin de Castro Trudeau with his woke efforts to step on civil rights in Canada.
1)
Next General election may just bring a sensible bunch of leaders back to power who will work well with the USA under Trump.

2. Hurting Canada, for the USA, is like the USA shooting itself in the foot. Foolish.
2)
A close look at trade shows the US and Canada are so intertwined that tariffs against Canada will hurt the US and visa versa. USA-Canada should be a free trade union for the same of both.

Rep. Tim Burchett, a member of the House DOGE subcommittee, has been vocal about the misuse of U.S. foreign aid,
1)
particularly through USAID, which he claims has been funding terrorist groups like Hamas and Hezbollah. During a hearing on February 26, 2025, Burchett questioned witnesses about the flow of U.S. aid to terrorist organizations,
2)
citing examples of USAID funding going to groups with links to Islamic terrorist outfits in various regions, including Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Gaza.
