Columbia student and New Yorker, Mahmoud Khalil - who was targeted and detained for constitutionally protected speech - should be home with his 8 months pregnant wife today.

Not missing in ICE detention, unreachable by his lawyers.

The White House's authoritarian actions are being falsely done in our name as Jews, by a President and politicians who actively use antisemitism and do not speak for Jews.

2/15
We’ve been afraid this day would come since campus protests began. Free speech and education are pillars of our democracy, and a healthy democracy is what keeps Jews safest.

This is an attack on both.

You’ve heard of the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, and its plan to help Trump disassemble US democracy to replace it with an authoritarian right wing Christian ethnostate.

4/15
You may not know that this same organization created Project Esther, a strategy on how right wing Christians can use Jewish fear and safety to divide our movements.

But this is what Project Esther looks like.

forward.com/opinion/676036…
The right knows that our majority and the US Constitution are the biggest things standing in the way of permanent, authoritarian rule by a right wing Christian minority taking away all of our freedoms as Americans.

6/15

This attack on the US Constitution is part of a right wing plan to shred the liberties of all Americans: Jewish, Muslim, Christian, Black, brown and white. Citizen, resident, immigrant. Everybody.

7/15 @ACLU

aclu.org/project-2025-e…
To do it, they’re using a tactic we call Smokescreen Antisemitism.

8/15
Smokescreen antisemitism uses antisemitism (often of the manufactured type, and sometimes real), to increase fear/division among Jews, while also pointing to the right as saviors of Jews from the antisemitism they themselves fuel.

9/15

They do this to shred our Constitutional liberties while breaking the American majority, one which treasures our freedoms.

10/15
What about real antisemitism?

When protests become popular movements, they bring everyone from everywhere, with all their experiences and talents. They can also bring what harms our society, such as antisemitism, anti-Black racism, sexism, and homophobia.

11/15
These oppressions are not reflective of the movements themselves, though critics would have you believe that they define them. Many have used accusations of antisemitism, real and perceived, to attempt to discredit these protests.

12/15
The right won’t stop here. This same tactic of targeting us, our loved ones and our neighbors to control speech they don’t like, and is being used to facilitate mass deportations, which the vast majority of American Jews oppose.

13/15 @RNSreligionnews.com/2025/01/27/in-…
They do this by employing the Great Replacement Theory, an antisemitic myth, again using Jews to force their agenda. And will continue to target anyone, including US citizens and anyone they disagree with if we don’t stop them.

14/15

We implore all institutions, people of all faiths, immigration & citizenship statuses to refuse the right’s attempts to use Jewish people to disassemble democracy & to keep our coalition together to end the machinery of antisemitism, racism & fascism aiming for our freedoms.

No, Rep. Rashida Tlaib did not say Michigan AG @dananessel charged pro-Palestinian protesters because the AG is Jewish. 🧵

metrotimes.com/news/fact-chec…
The claim by @RashidaTlaib was that Michigan's AG, through her whole tenure, had never filed charges against protestors doing civil disobedience from other issues like police violence and climate until it came to Palestinians, a common institutional bias in the US.

2/ “We’ve had the right to dissent, the right to protest,” Tlaib says. “We’ve done it for climate, the immigrant rights movement, for Black lives, and even around issues of injustice among water shutoffs. But it seems that the attorney general decided if the issue was Palestine, she was going to treat it differently, and that alone speaks volumes about possible biases within the agency she runs.”
The @ACLU itself made the same claim, saying it represents "a pattern of excessive response by law enforcement to the campus protests".

BREAKING: A new poll from JDCA confirms what we already know:

American Jews are not a monolith or single-issue voters, and our priorities this election are as diverse as our multi-faith, multiracial community. 🧵

1/
American Jews ranked the future of democracy as a top priority, followed by issues like abortion, climate change, antisemitism, and immigration.

Israel ranked 9th for Jewish voters when deciding which candidate to support.

2/ Image
The poll also shows that — just like in 2020 and 2016 — Jews overwhelmingly reject Trump.

72% of Jewish voters back Kamala Harris, while only 25% support Donald Trump.

In the last 24 hours we’ve learned that the ongoing violence has claimed an additional 6 Israeli hostages and at least 47 Palestinians.

We grieve with all of the families and people in deep pain over this tremendous — and avoidable — loss of life.

🧵
We’ve learned the only American who is able to stop it with a stroke of a pen, President @JoeBiden, continues to refuse to enforce his own red line, and make good on his own promise to stop offensive weapons to Israel.

2/
We’ve learned that the person leading this nation with him, VP @KamalaHarris, who is promising Americans a new chapter, is doubling down on militarism which will only take more precious lives.

Jewish people are a vital part of the fight against fascism in this country.

📽️Watch our new video on Project 2025, how the GOP targets Jews, and how we can stop them.

🧵
After Trump's first victory, the right, nor Trump, were prepared to win, so they didn't prepare to use (and abuse) the White House to its fullest, unimaginable potential.

#Project2025 is their response to that, a 900 page plan to build a far right government, in waiting.

2/
And Project 2025 isn't just a plan anymore.

They've created a private sort of "LinkedIn" where they're recruiting, hiring and training people to immediately take hold of every nook in government they can, large and small.

May is Jewish American Heritage month.

Jewish people have been part of the story of the U.S. since its inception, from the promises of its founding, to the many ways the country has failed to live up to those promises, to the fights to make those promises a reality.

🧵 1/
And in this critical moment for American Jews, we can celebrate one important aspiration of our American dream: a true democracy, where all voices are heard and all people are free.

2/
Our ancestors experienced violence and oppression at the hand of authoritarian movements, dictatorships, and laws that restricted their rights and threatened their safety.
