Drosten was briefly involved in discussions about how to publicly disparage the lab leak theory in early 2020, private Slack messages show. Collins said Drosten privately made his case against the lab leak theory with "more forcefulness than necessary," but Drosten denies this. Others called him "too conflicted" to think about the issue straight. (I have recently received emails from Drosten complaining about my writing about this.)
