it’s control. It’s survival. And you deserve more than being someone’s emotional crutch
You have been conditioned to believe that love means sacrifice- your sacrifice. That if you just endure enough, prove enough, shrink enough, they will change. But ask yourself: Have they? Or have they only learned that no matter how they treat you, you’ll still be there?
You are not selfish for choosing peace over pain. You are not cruel for setting boundaries with people who punish your emotions. You are not abandoning them—you are choosing you.
If your presence is only valued when they need something, that is not family. That is dependency. And you are not here to be their emotional anchor while they refuse to swim.
