Opened #TropicalOnRails with a simple truth: new startups are choosing Rails in 2025—and thriving with it. Why, how, and what can we do better?
But first, a quote from @gxespino from @luthorAI Image
These are all the founders I talked to this time: Rails lets them focus on business, not boilerplate 🙌 Image
The Rails ecosystem is vibrant, but founders want more:
⚡️Modern, cohesive frontend tools: advanced Hotwire and Inertia docs, design-forward UI kits
⚡️AI tooling and guidance includes patters of integration with Python services, infrastructure and tooling for Agents, MCPs and more.
⚡️Prescriptive guidance for performance at scale and working with LLMs in production
⚡️New reason to be vocal about using Ruby: Pragmatic Enlightenment. More about it >>Image
This is where we are in the adoption cycle of Rails: it has proven its pragmatic value and there's now a huge opportunity in leveraging Ruby and Rails in a very pragmatic fashion: there is no need to be purists. There is a need to be vocal about the tangible value we get. Image
The reasons these founders chose Rails:
– fastest time to market (Rails comes with batteries included)
– battle-tested reliability
– entrepreneurial culture in people you hire
– increased chances of startup success
– monolith sanity and developer happiness
– community
Here's the full deck:
Huge thank you to @cirdesh and everyone at @tropicalonrails for having me! 💜
P.S. I hope to finally get my docs in order, and be able to visit Brazil next year!speakerdeck.com/irinanazarova/…
