Tons of authors either live here or visit often since all of the big 5 publishing companies are based in the city.
So what if I organized a monthly dinner where authors could connect and learn from each other?
This way they could share their publishing experiences, and I could be a literal fly on the wall and soak up knowledge from them.
Although I haven’t written a book yet, I cold emailed a few authors and to my surprise they said “Yes”!
Through the dinners I’ve been able to learn a ton about writing, editing, and marketing books, but more importantly made several new amazing friends.
There’s now a waitlist for the NYC dinners and I’m also planning ones in Toronto and Austin soon.
Two big takeaways:
1) If there’s no community or you can’t get invited to a community, build your own.
2) People love to connect, they’re just busy and don’t want to deal with organizing or scheduling things. Do the boring work and you’ll be rewarded for it.
PS: If you’re an author who’s interested in joining, feel free to DM me!
