Be advised when reading foreign media even if repeated by in American news media: The UK media is now calling Hamas terrorists legally detained or convicted in Israeli prison hostages.

This was despite the fact that the BBC, which is covered by a different regulator, had to make an on-air correction after it too described Palestinian prisoners as hostages.

Ipso ruled that the article was not inaccurate and upheld its earlier decision when Mr Levick appealed against it.

It described the term “hostage ” as “somewhat subjective”.
