Okay, so, let's break this down.
Adriana Smith is braindead. That means there is no chance of recovery. She has no function in her entire brain, including the brain stem.
That means that all functions that keep Adriana alive are entirely artificial. Heart,
nbcnews.com/news/us-news/f…
lungs, hormones -- it all has to come from doctors. This isn't a coma. She's not unconscious. She's dead - except for machines.
When Smith died, she was nine weeks pregnant.
Now, the situation is that she is being kept on all those machines, against the wishes of her family,
with the possibility that the baby can be removed at 32 weeks that the fetus can be delivered and Smith can be allowed to die.
Let's go through some things.
1) It is completely legal in the United States, and indeed very common, for family or a living will to provide for a
person to be removed from life support in these circumstances. It's even legal to request someone be removed from life support if they're in a persistent vegetative state (so the brainstem still works, which Smith's doesn't.) Smith is dead. The fact that she is alive is
entirely artificial. There is no legal or ethical expectation that her family keep her breathing for any period of time -- except for her pregnancy.
2) The human uterus is not a moist damp space for an autonomous being to grow in. We like to talk about it this way because we
like to downplay the role women have in reproduction because we really, really hate women. But there are a thousand things that the woman's body does that keep the fetus growing -- adjust hormones, nutrients, attend to symptoms and fetal movement, etc. A dead body is not
a suitable replacement for a live one for fetal reasons. Everything Smith's body would usually do to bring the baby to term is now provided entirely by machines. It is anyone's guess if they can do it for this length of time. This is basically a medical experiment on a
human. The signs are already there that this fetus is not healthy.
3) To take Smith off of live support *would not be an abortion.* An abortion is terminating a pregnancy. Pregnancies usually end when a person dies. Smith is dead.
It is not unreasonable that her pregnancy would end *when her life did.*
Nothing about this process is natural, pro-human, pro-life, or pro-human dignity. This is basically a medical experiment on a woman and her child that this family never consented to.
Smith doesn't seem to have left a living will but even if she did it's not indicated at all it would be respected in this case. She's a science experiment now. And so is her child.
This isn't human dignity. This is Frankenstein. With someone's daughter and grandchild.
And to be clear:
I am HIGHLY sympathetic to any argument from the pro life community that resists the idea it's better for a fetus to die than be born disabled.
Disabled people are human. They have value.
But I think there is a HUGE difference between saying that a
disabled person deserves to live, as opposed to saying that a woman and child who, without mechanical intervention, would have died of natural causes, should instead be kept alive to see if the fetus can survive long enough to emerge from the womb and if it can
what kinds of physical limitations he has and whether this experiment is repeatable.
One is affirming the natural variance between humans within the limits of science and seeking to provide for their needs.
The latter is really just human experimentation, as far as I can tell.

Yeah so let me walk you through how this goes:
1) Companies won't itemize their bills and will simply raise their prices. This means Trump can keep pretending, and telling you, that he's not taxing you, it's just that pesky Bidenflation
2) Trump cuts deals with some of his
favorite billionaires so they don't pay import taxes. They do, though, keep prices high. You don't know about it, because your bill isn't itemized. Meanwhile Mom and Pop shops fold because they can't keep up with Trump's taxes. Darn Bidenflation, they say, and of course, Trump
won't correct them.
3) Meanwhile you're paying taxes at both ends, both getting taxed when you make purchases and paying your federal taxes. However, Trump keeps telling you that these tariff taxes, which you're not supposed to admit you are actually paying, are how he is going

So here's a thing I got asked when I was talking about teen birth rates and the national birth rate generally:
"If girls/women are most fertile from 15-30, why are we losing more than a decade to that for education for no good reason?"
I'm not going to entertain "why 15-17 year
olds shouldn't have babies" because I think it's self explanatory, but I want to make one thing really clear.
If the reason a woman doesn't have babies until she's in her 30s is "because she wants to," that is not only an excellent reason, but the only reason that matters.
I really need to emphasize that when we are talking about women, we are talking about *more than half of people.*
If the common good of a society cannot function without sublimating and erasing the goals, dreams, desires, and wishes of *half of people,* that society

Things I Have Been Told Tariffs Do by Twitter
1) Raise IRS revenue by raising prices
2) Raise IRS revenue by charging other countries money, which US consumers don't pay
3) Bring back unionized manufacturing jobs
4) Bring back non unionized manufacturing jobs but hey at least
it's a job right
5) Create jobs for STEM grads on the coasts, but that's really it, yeah
6) Protect small businesses
7) Wipe out small businesses but that's good because we don't need them
8) Replace the income tax (there is no plan for this)
9) Replace property taxes (literally
makes no sense)
10) (we're getting crazier here) Get men out of degrading service jobs into more dignified manufacturing jobs (claim has never been made by a man in service work)
11) Get women out of the work force and into marriages
12) Raise the birth rate
13) Stops the US

There's some interesting online pieces of data showing the extent to which it really does seem men think that the point of tariffs is to cause economic hardship *specifically for American women.*
Most of the articles I've read where women business owners are talking
about the fear they will have to close up shop are besieged with comments like "you should make an OnlyFans" or "get married."
Not to be Freudian about this but I really do think the sub rational reason for a lot of this (and why no one can articulate a rational reason) is the
fantasy that tariffs will make us a land of big beefy white men swinging hammers in steel mills who go home to women who have to make themselves sexually available to men who they wouldn't spend time with if they didn't have to for financial reasons.

Hi Victoria.
One thing you and I don't have in common is -- I actually grew up in Indiana and I know what Hoosiers look like.
Crunchy Hoosiers are in Bloomington and, ten years ago, maybe Broadripple. They don't look like this. These are Waffle House Hoosiers. They were
yelling because they are mad at you because you're doing a bad job. Go to a sports bar during the NCAA tournament and you'll see them doing the same thing at basketball coaches. They're not mad because they're far left plants, they're mad because you suck and they know it.
Like I'm sorry Victoria, I'm not trying to stereotype, but my gosh, girl -- these are not Democrats. These are bog standard Hoosiers. They either voted for you or didn't vote, they have a favorite sweet corn stand, they root for Will Power in the Indy 500. Image

So if DOGE doesn’t decrease the deficit, and it doesn’t decrease taxes, why do people like it?
I don’t think it’s any deeper than the joy of knowing that somewhere in the country, you wiped the smile off the face of someone who was working happily and comfortably in their chosen
field.
I think that’s where most of this comes from. People who are miserable who see other people going to school, making money, working in the field they’re passionate about, and having a family, and for MAGA it’s thrilling to feel like someone is finally making
Americans who are happier than you as miserable as you are.
