🚨 There’s a lot of horrific news out of Washington right now—but you might have missed this: Senate Republicans just introduced a plan to sell off 120 million acres of our public lands.
Let me break down what’s in the bill and why it’s a full-scale land grab. 🧵
Buried in a Senate budget bill is a massive giveaway to corporate developers and fossil fuel companies.
It forces the sale of at least 2 million acres of Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management land in 11 Western states *every 60 days* until millions of acres are gone.
These aren’t just any lands.
They include:
🌱 Wilderness study areas
🌲 Roadless national forests
🫎 Big game migration corridors
🥾Local recreation lands
❤️🔥 Tribal homelands and sacred sites (with NO right of first refusal)
This would be the largest public lands sell-off in modern U.S. history and it's happening with no hearings, no debate, and no public input.
It sells out your access to America’s outdoor heritage to fund tax breaks for billionaires.
And let’s be clear: this isn't about affordable housing.
The bill has NO safeguards to ensure lands are actually used for housing. They can be resold for other uses after 10 years. It’s a Trojan horse.
Meanwhile, under-resourced local governments are expected to bid against commercial developers -without help.
Tribal Nations aren’t even allowed a first shot at reclaiming their own sacred lands.
The result? A Wild West-style land rush, all to fund giveaways to the rich at the expense of veterans, rural communities, Indigenous nations, and every American who cherishes wild places.
This is the exact kind of scam we’ve seen before: short-term profits for powerful interests, long-term loss for the public.
It sets a precedent to liquidate public lands anytime a politician needs to fund a pet project.
I’m a lifelong Californian, a Marine Corps veteran, and the CEO of @VetVoiceFound. I served to defend this country, and I’ll fight to defend its lands, too.
If you care about hunting, hiking, wildlife, clean water, or just the idea that public lands belong to all of us, it’s time to raise hell.
Call your senators. Call the media.
Call it what it is: A war on the American West.
This thread has picked up crazy traction - so I just asked @Senator @BasedMikeLee to a town hall w/me, other veterans, and Americans of all political backgrounds to explain his rationale for trying to sell off our public lands. Please help amplify:
🧵1/ The President’s threat to invoke the Insurrection Act in Minnesota isn’t about restoring calm or keeping people safe - it’s part of a pattern of provocation, escalation, and threats of force meant to justify using the military against Americans.
2/ The Insurrection Act is rarely used and reserved for the most extreme moments in our history. Threatening to use it now - in response to protests - is a major escalation and a dangerous shift toward treating political dissent as a military problem instead of a democratic one.
3/ In 2025, the President federalized the National Guard in multiple states - but the courts repeatedly pushed back, blocking and rebuking those deployments as exceeding his authority. nytimes.com/2025/12/31/us/…
You might’ve heard that Sen @BasedMikeLee is attempting to sell up to 3 million acres of public land and open the door for 250 million more to be sold off later.
What you might not know: This is not a one-off.
It’s a long game - and he’s been playing it for years. 🧵
2017: @BasedMikeLee helped gut Bears Ears & Grand Staircase-Escalante, stripping protections from over 2 million acres of land sacred to veterans, tribes, and outdoorsmen.
🧵1/ While America slept, House Republicans launched a sneak attack on our public lands—and veterans and military families should be outraged. Here’s what happened last night and why it matters: #KeepPublicLandsPublic
2/ At midnight, Reps. Amodei (NV) and Malloy (UT) slipped an amendment into a massive budget package that forces the sell-off of public lands. No debate. No public input. Just a backroom deal.
3/ These lands aren’t just scenery—they’re where veterans hike with our families, hunt with our buddies, and find peace after service. Selling them off is a betrayal of every American who’s worn the uniform and come home to the country they fought to protect.
1/ 🚨 Elon Musk is firing government watchdogs that regulate his companies—a massive conflict of interest. With Trump, he’s gutting the CFPB, leaving military families vulnerable to financial predators. 🧵
2/ The CFPB has long protected service members from scams, predatory loans & mortgage fraud. In 2024 alone, it handled 100K+ complaints & returned $175M to military families. Now, Musk & allies are dismantling it.
3/ Acting CFPB Director Russell Vought calls it “woke,” but the truth? It was working—so corporations want it gone. This isn’t about efficiency. It’s about profit.
In a recent announcement, @SecDef Pete Hegseth stated that he doesn't see a path for Ukraine to join NATO and doubts Ukraine can regain all its territory from Russia. This marks a major shift in U.S. policy—one with serious consequences.
For years, the U.S. backed Ukraine’s sovereignty & NATO path to deter Russian aggression. Now, signaling that Ukraine won’t join NATO sends a dangerous message: military force can change borders, and aggression works. The risks go far beyond Ukraine.
This shift doesn’t just hurt Ukraine—it puts European security at risk. If Russia believes the West is backing down, what’s to stop it from pushing further? The Baltic states—Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia—are NATO members but geographically vulnerable.
