This claim is originally from Balwantnama. This book was written in 1875 while Balwant Singh had died in 1770. So this is not a contemporary source. Now let us see what is written in Balvant Nama.

The first thing is that the writer himself is not sure about what he has written. It shows in his language. Here the writer talks about Vijaygarh Zamindari but there was no Zamindari named Vijaygarh. Vijaygarh was the name of a fort.

Chet Singh was illegitimate through a slave. The author & others were trying to prove the legitimacy by linking her mother to the Rajputs.Chet Singh was also refused to be recognized as the Raja of Benaras by the Nawab of Awadh as being an illegitimate son.

The then Raja of Banaras went one step further and came up with a different theory. According to Raja Dev Narayan of Banaras, she was the daughter of a Rajput zamindar of Bvrhul pargana of Banaras. The author has mentioned here that many people call her a slave girl.

The conclusion is that there is no contemporary source for the fact that Chet Singh's mother was a Rajput. The Banaras royal family itself says different things. Chet Singh's mother was a slave and the m!x breed people try to prove her legitimacy by calling her a Rajput.
