The bigger problem here is that Republicans had a pretty good chance to pull an upset on a split ticket here and the best they had to offer was Curtis fucking Silwa for the 10th time.
I do think people are thinking a bit too deeply about this. Asians voted for him because he's Asian. Whites voted for him because they actually hate Cuomo and wanted an alternative. I think anyone who ran a good campaign who wasn't Cuomo would have won.
The deeper issue that Democrats are facing in New York right now is they are old and full of baggage. It's the same way that AOC won. If some slick, young DSA candidate mounts a good campaign against like Jerry Nadler, he's going to lose.
It's as much about the new people being slick and brown and young vs white and Jewish and old as it is them being DSA.
In other words, If I was Dan "Goldman" looking at my district today, I'd be shitting bricks.
I posted this the other day, but old guard New York Democrats are up shit creek in a lot of ways because their guaranteed base of black people is a smaller voting block than it was even 10 years ago and it's declining.
And as we're seeing, Asians are *way* more likely to run for office in neighborhoods where they're the clear majority than black people. And they win.

I don't know if there are any young guys out there looking for a business to get into, but every clock/watch repair guy I've ever met is 125 years old and there is like one per county.
Enough that it's going to take a few weeks to fix my clock.
For what it's worth, this happened at a playground in Bay Ridge once and one of the Italian-descended Dads took the phone, smashed it, punched the guy in the face, and physically threw him out of the playground.
I know this sounds like one of those stories that definitely didn't happen, but this one actually did. Native Brooklyners are built different than Park Slopers.
Went to a bookstore today in the SWPL town I'm visiting and there were significantly more YA fiction books with trans protagonists than white male protagonists.
The STEM "shortage" is they don't want to hire recent grads and they also don't want to hire anyone over 40. What they actually mean is there aren't enough Software 2s or 3s or their equivalents available.
They want engineers they don't have to train but also don't have to pay
The primary problem with over-40 STEM people is that they're all white and Asian men, because that's the only people who went to school for CompSci in the 90s and 00s, and hiring managers are tasked with specifically ignoring those people.
It's better for them to hire H1Bs who pretend to have these qualifications because it hits their metrics.
A secondary problem with Silicon Valley is there is a non-trivial number of experienced American engineers who are not moving their family to San Francisco.
You can make an H1B move to SF. You can't make a dad with 3 kids in school.
You could convince me to move back to New York. I wouldn't hang up on you if you were pitching Charlotte or Boston. San Francisco would be an absolute non-starter.
Of all the many reasons I want Trump to win, one of top ten is that I want the US's 250th birthday in 2026 to be over the top Trump bonkers with like gold plated tanks and 50 state flyovers.
I want Europeans to look at it and say "Jaysus, calm down you jingoistic Yanks" but secretly seethe at the awesomeness of the spectacle.
I want the people coming here for the World Cup to leave even *more* annoyed at how loud and obnoxious Americans are and complaining about our unfounded pride.
