🧵5⃣ Easy Tips for the Receiver 🏃

We talk a lot about decision-making with the ball.
But football is mostly played without it.

These 5 ideas helped me improve the receiver’s behavior in real contexts.

@SundayShare10 Image
1. Read the pressure on the ball

If the possessor is under pressure → move close, be an easy way out.
If the possessor is free → attack depth, stretch the line.

Many receivers move without considering this.
Right decision depends on their context, not just yours.
2. Stay diagonally out of the defender’s eyeline.

Your positioning makes the defender's job easier or harder. The key is not being directly in front of the defender.

Position yourself slightly behind and diagonally.
From there, you can adjust your movement. Image
3. Know your teammate’s passing profile

Not every teammate will take the same risks.

Is he left-footed or right-footed? Is he confident breaking lines?

Adapt your movement to match his comfort zone, not yours. Anticipate what he can do, not what you want him to do.
4. Move against the defender’s flow

The defender’s body tells you everything.

If he's focused on the ball, attack his blind spot.
If he's sprinting toward you, change the angle: go diagonal or go behind him.

The space is not where you want to go. It’s against his flow.
5. Use your body to communicate

Once you make eye contact with the possessor, speak without words.

A quick point. A sudden sprint. A shift in posture.

These cues help the possessor read your intention.
Don’t just be available. Be readable.

🧵 “Football is a game from goal to goal.”

Sounds logical.
But the game doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves in multiple directions.

Let’s break down why the DIAGONAL is so powerful & how it influences the Final Third.

→ The difference between static and dynamic references
→ And how diagonality disrupts defensive structure Image

Start with the static references; the fixed elements that shape a player’s positioning and orientation:

– The goals
– The halfway line
– The penalty boxes
– Field dimensions

But only those references influence the players? 👇

Sounds logical.

But that simple idea hides something deeper: The game doesn’t move in straight lines. It moves in multiple directions.

🧵5 Tips That Helped Me Improve Perception

Many coaches say: “Look!” or “Scan!”

But… most players don’t know what they’re looking for.

Here’s what made the biggest difference for me 👇

@SundayShare10 Image
1. Who is marking me?

Most players recognize the ball.
Fewer recognize the player marking them.

This is the first reference.

If I’m close to my mark, I’ll have less space. If I move intelligently, I can create more time.
2. Judge pressure by space & behavior.

Not all defenders defend the same way.

How far is he?
Is he coming to win it, or delay?

A player 3m away but passive gives you time.
A player 5m away but sprinting? Urgent decisions.

🧵5 Coaching Shifts That Changed the Way I Train Players

These aren’t drills.
These are decisions I made after realizing I was getting in the way.

If you're working with youth, one of these might shift your approach too.👇

@SundayShare10 Image
1⃣ Most Mistakes Happen Before the Action

We always look at the pass or the shot.

But the real problem?
→ He didn’t see early.
→ He didn’t scan.
→ He didn’t read the cue.
Anticipation beats execution. Every time.
2⃣ Stop Coaching the Possessor

I used to talk to the player on the ball.

Now I coach what’s around him.

Because when the environment is poor, no decision is clean.
→ Focus on the receiver’s shape, timing, and movement.
→ The possessor reacts to that. Not to your voice.

🧵 Unopposed Drills: When and How to Use Them

Unopposed drills can be useful, but professional training sessions aren’t always the best reference for youth development.

Context is key—understanding your team’s needs will help determine when and how to apply them.
Youth Teams

For young players, unopposed drills should be used sparingly, mainly to practice technical execution.

They should never be the core of your training.

Shooting drills, for example, are both fun and effective at this stage.
7-a-Side (Intermediate Stage)

Here, the focus should shift to small-sided scenarios (1v1 to 3v3).

Unopposed drills can introduce a technical skill but shouldn’t replace game-like decision-making exercises.

5 Foundations for Any Playing Style 🧵

In this @SundayShare10, let’s dive into five key concepts that are essential for players to succeed in both positional and dynamic styles of play 👇🏻
1) Beat the 1V1

In any game model, the ability to beat a direct opponent 1v1 is a game-changer.

It creates numerical advantages, disrupts defensive structures, and opens up new possibilities.
2) Beat your Opponent with Positioning

Understanding where to position yourself relative to your direct opponent’s behavior is crucial.

Finding the optimal spot can overcome the pressure and create new opportunities for the team.
