When I was 25 I was driving down the highway at like 11pm and a deer ran in front of me all the way across the opposite lanes and totaled my car. I was in the middle of open farm land and there were barely any street lights. a guy stopped in his car and came over to me
he said “I know you’re not. but are you ok?” I nodded yes and he went to go get my bumper out of the middle of the road. I got out of my car and sat on the guardrail and called my friends and AAA, all of which were an hour away. this guy waited with me for that full hour
he told me he stopped bc he was driving with his friend who was on a motorcycle and thought I had hit him, which made me realize things could always be worse. He kept trying to make me laugh bc he knew how upset I was
he never hit on me or even asked for my name. just sat in the middle of a dark highway surrounded by nothing with me until my friends got there, at which point he said “I hope it gets better” and left. I think about him all the time
