HOW FOOTBALL TEAMS SHOULD BEHAVE (A Thread) 👇
I was at the Preston North End vs Liverpool friendly, but everyone here is together in solemn grief at the sudden death of Diogo Jota & Andre Silva.
Even though it's not Preston’s player who died, they poured out tributes ...
and made an effort to commiserate their opponents fallen comrade.
They played stirring a rendition of “You’ll Never Walk Alone”, even though it's not Preston's anthem.
Players from both sides donned black armbands. Preston’s captain laid a wreath in front of away supporters.
Deepdale’s big screens and pitch‑side LEDs displayed video montages celebrating Jota’s life and impact.
A commemorative, 16-page matchday programme was distributed to all fans for free.
Both teams observed a respectful minute’s silence and both sets of fans were amazing.
In short; Preston North End and their fans didn't need to do any of that. But they did out of respect to their opponent, respect for the game and respect to the fans. Manchester United would have never extended such a courtesy.
All United wants to do is squeeze every penny out of everybody, and turfing out fans from their seats so that they make obscene profits from inflated ticket prices.
Sometimes it takes other clubs to show class to make you realise that the club you support really stinks.
