In 2022, Ukrainian civilians barricaded the road to the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (Europe's largest NPP) to defend it against Russian forces. They faced Russian tanks totally unarmed. NATO nations are afraid to shoot down UNMANNED Russian drones & missiles in Ukraine. 1/5
Instances of Ukrainian civilians standing down Russian tanks - even columns of them -with nothing but their bodies abound. Yet NATO nations won't even enlist their PROFESSIONAL ARMIES to do even things which avoid direct confrontation with RU, like protecting Ukrainian skies. 2/5
When Russia attacks a NATO nation, how can its citizens have any faith that their army will have the fortitude to protect them when their governments think it's too scary to shoot down UNMANNED drones and missiles which kill Ukrainian civilians sleeping in their beds???
3/5
NATO nations are too afraid to even attribute every act of terror and attack by Russia to Moscow, never mind acknowledge that the multitude of Russian acts of terror amount to actual aggression! We are cowards bringing on our demise. It's despicable.
4/5
It doesn't have to be this way. RU's war against Ukraine IS WINNABLE for Ukraine. We CAN help Ukraine DEFEAT Russia. And considering how absolutely incredible Ukrainians have shown to be, what is needed to help them achieve victory is less than it will be when RU attacks us.

Russian aggression and genocide were largely ignored from 2014 until 2022 when the images of Russian missiles striking Kyiv, and of mutilated civilians scattered about the streets of Ukraine with their hands bound behind their backs finally shook people up. Temporarily... 🧵
Those who didn't care about Ukraine, or whose russocentrism, russophilia, and general anti-UA bias prevented them from giving two shits about Ukraine even professionally had to jump on the bandwagon to be relevant. But now bombing Ukraine into oblivion is old hat and not sexy.🧵
Russian genocide of Ukrainians is boring. "Is it even really a thing? After all, we cannot infer genocidal intent." (Yes, we absolutely can!) "Ukraine was a buffer, and now it's our shield. It's just how things are. Ukraine needs to cut a deal. That's reality. Next topic!"🧵
Counting military aid to Ukraine as part of NATO defence spending is tacit acknowledgement that Ukraine's defence against Russia is a shared, collective responsibility for NATO. It is a tacit acknowledgment that Ukraine is defending NATO nations. That UA is doing NATO's work.

It's hard to imagine that Canada quietly made this decision without discussing it with any other NATO nation. This would have been a point of discussion and agreement. If so, this isn't merely Ottawa acknowledging Ukraine is fighting for us all, but other NATO members, too.
3/9
People who say Ukraine should be "grateful" to other nations for their support forget to be grateful to Ukraine for doing NATO's job.
Without Ukrainian resistance to fascist Russia, Russian tanks would be in a NATO nation by now.

Ukrainians are sacrificing life and limb, experiencing immeasurable devastation and loss of every kind, to protect not only themselves and their nation, but democracy itself. They are safeguarding democracy, thereby protecting the free world.
2/4
No, Ukraine need not be "grateful" to any nation for the lack of full support it deserves and is owed as it fights our fight. No, Ukraine deserves our deepest gratitude and FULL support.

The "I don't hate Russians" people will sing an entirely different tune when Russia invades THEIR country and starts killing THEIR parents, siblings, children, cousins, grandparents, friends, colleagues, artists, doctors, mechanics, musicians, dancers, writers, plumbers, etc.

Maybe, after Russians gang rape your wife, son, daughter, and mother, you won't be so enamoured with the "mysterious soul" of those barbarians. Maybe, after they bomb your children's school and local playground, you'll feel a little less self-righteous.
2/6
Maybe, after Russians cut your husband's testicles out, you won't feel so excited about the Bolshoi. Maybe, after your child cannot get chemotherapy because Russia bombed the children's hospital where they get treatment, you won't cite Tolstoy as important.

Today, the "Coalition of the Willing" of France, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom walking in the streets of Kyiv to much applause and excitement. But we need to ask, WHAT exactly is this coalition willing to do?
1/10 president.gov.ua/en/news/spilna…
In a joint statement, France, Germany, Poland, the UK, and Ukraine said that the Coalition is committed to calling for a "full and unconditional ceasefire" that "lasts for at least 30 days" as a "foundation" for "peace".
2/10
Let's be honest and clear: ANY talk of "peace deals" is accepting defeat. It is defeat because Ukraine MUST make concessions. This means Russia wins because it is rewarded. The argument that by not achieving its full objectives Moscow has "lost" is intolerable nonsense.

In 2022, Russia under Putin chose to cross the rubicon to open, unadulterated evil. Moscow is devoted to its path & embraces it fully
In the same fashion, the US under Trump is moving rapidly towards crossing the rubicon to openly abandon support for intl & humanitarian law
1/17
The United States is on the precipice of crossing the rubicon to openly supporting and ENABLING the destruction of international law. DC's course is allowing an evil, aggressive, genocidal, fascist regime to grow unchecked. To let authoritarianism spread and kill democracy.
2/17
This leaves the free world to fill the gap and show that it will unequivocally defend intl law, not sit by helplessly as Russia & the US detonate it.
The EU and NATO members have a special duty to prevent RU and US from taking the world down the rabbit hole of destruction.
