A new study has shown that a simple, cheap over the counter supplement can have regenerative & life saving benefits for the brain in one week.

(🧵1/8)Image
Image
This study gave people with physical damage to the brain (traumatic brain injury or TBI):

➜ A single dose of 4 g of N-acetylcysteine (NAC)
➜ Then 2 g every 12 hours for 4 days
➜ Then 1.5 g every 12 h for 3 days

on top of standard TBI treatment.

(2/8)Image
Though the NAC group was similar overall to the placebo group (who only received standard TBI treatment),

more people in the NAC group (75%) had severe brain injury in comparison to the control (55%) at the beginning of the study.

(3/8) Image
NAC improved metrics of inflammation and damage across the board:

☆ Reduced IL-6 (inflammatory cytokine)
☆ Improved MDA (marker of oxidative damage)
☆ Lower NSE + S100B (intracellular proteins that get released when brain cells die)

again, all within one week. (4/8) Image
NAC didn't just improve blood markers - it improved real outcomes too.

People on NAC improved by over 53% on the GCS - a measure of cognitive function following brain injury.

Those on standard therapy alone? Just under 13%.

(5/8)Image
People taking NAC also spent significantly less time in the hospital,

on average getting out of the ICU about a week in advance.

Another sign that the NAC is working quickly to help repair the brain.

(6/8) Image
NAC improved survival from brain injury.

10% of people died after 28 days who used just one week of NAC.

30% of people without NAC died over that same time period.

Remember, more people had severe TBI in the NAC group as well - making these results even more impressive.

(7/8) Image
Traumatic brain injury causes the release of damaged cell parts, which triggers inflammation, which then increases oxidative stress.

These processes further worsen brain damage, mitochondrial function and cognition.

NAC works in multiple different ways to protect the brain from this type of injury.

1. Prevents excessive oxidative stress from damaging cell components (by being a glutathione precursor)
2. Prevents oxidative stress from disrupting mitochondrial function - which supplies neurons with necessary energy to survive and thrive
3. Inhibits the activation of microglia - inflammatory cells of the brain
4. Prevents excessive glutamate release - which can trigger excitotoxicity in neurons

All of this prevents cell damage, death and energetic deficiency, which allows cells to stay alive and continue the healing process.

Literally every health issue can be tied back to your gut health.

Don't believe me? Here's 12 examples (thread):

1. Depression

People with major depressive disorder often show elevated markers of an imbalanced microbiome + leaky gut.

Gut inflammation = brain inflammation.Image
Image
2. Anxiety

This is one of the most frequent issues I see tied to gut dysfunction.

The inflammation from the gut can activate all of the stress systems:

➠ Cortisol
➠ Adrenaline

A gut-centered approach can dramatically improve this.Image
3. Brain Fog

That vague, hard-to-describe mental sluggishness poor focus, low clarity is often driven by bacterial overgrowth in the GI tract.

In some cases, antibiotics that reduce these bacteria rapidly improve symptoms.

More on that below.

The body's MASTER ANTIOXIDANT - but every year you lose more of it.

It prevents every sign of aging - from your skin, to your energy, and everything in between.

GLUTATHIONE - its importance, and how you can implement it to your benefit:Image
Glutathione is the central antioxidant in the body.

➥ Detoxifies hydrogen peroxide (from free radicals or oxidants)
➥ Recycles vitamin C and E (antioxidants)

Oxidants are made, and antioxidants are depleted, with:

➥ Inflammation
➥ Toxins
➥ Metals
➥ Poor mitochondrial function

and more.

The inability of the body to cope with this oxidative stress is perhaps THE fundamental cause behind aging and disease, as it:

➥ Disrupts cell signaling
➥ Damages tissues / cell components
➥ Disrupts energy production

And this is why glutathione is so important - it is the central player in this central system of health.Image
Image
Glutathione decreases with age, and increases risk of chronic diseases across the board.

Not only do we accumulate oxidative stressors over time,

but the body also becomes worse at making new glutathione with time.

The less glutathione you have - the more at risk you are to have a chronic disease.Image

Euphoria. Energy. Motivation. Creativity.

All a result of DOPAMINE.

Too bad so many of us are low on it.

Here's 5 tools that'll help you boost it (that you've never heard of):

#1 Mucuna Pruriens (velvet bean)

This is the closest you can get to ingesting pure dopamine.Image
Mucuna Pruriens contains DOPA - the direct precursor to dopamine.

This bypasses the regulatory steps that normally prevent you from producing enough dopamine.

The result? You get tons of dopamine, with little risk of adverse events or addiction potential.Image
Mucuna Pruriens raises dopamine levels in the brain.

Notably, in the cortex, which:

→ Enhances working memory
→ Improves attention / focus
→ Improves executive function
→ Optimizes emotional regulation
→ Facilitates meaning, fulfillment, purposeImage

What your doctor won't tell you about improving bloating, gas, IBS, SIBO and healing your gut.

FIBER - why it might be the WORST thing you can eat for your gut:

(yes, even for constipation)Image
A zero fiber diet is incredibly therapeutic for the gut.

In this study, every single person was cured of digestive symptoms by cutting out fiber entirely.

In 2 weeks:

➠ Pain
➠ Bloating
➠ Bleeding

all completely eliminated.Image
Image
A zero fiber diet can fix constipation.

Those in the study who stopped fiber completely went from:

1 bowel movement every 4 days ➔ 1 per day.

Those who reduced fiber improved:

1 every 4 days ➔ 1 every 2 days

Those who kept eating fiber had just 1 bowel movement per WEEK.Image

Your body is crying for help, but you're ignoring these 5 signs of high cortisol.

#1 Round face

This can from several factors, but one of the most common is high cortisol.

Cortisol directly drives fat deposition in certain areas of the body,

especially the face like this.Image
Here's one real life example.

This girl had a tumor on her adrenal gland causing her to produce excess cortisol.

Left - with tumor
Right - after removalImage
#2 You're always tired, but you also can't sleep.

Physically tired, but your body is in a state of fight or flight.

This is a sign of flattened cortisol rhythm - it's supposed to peak in the morning and be low the rest of the day.

This happens under chronic stress.Image

You cannot underestimate the power of collagen - it's literally a fountain of youth.

Regenerates the skin, helps regrow hair - and is even huge for your heart, brain + gut health.

Here's why you NEED to implement collagen for optimal health:Image
Small amounts of collagen prevent aging of the brain.

Just 5 grams a day:

◇ Increased white matter in the brain
◇ Memory
◇ Learning ability

likely by:

◇ Increasing angiogenesis (blood vessel formation)
◇ BDNF (brain cell growth)
◇ Reducing inflammationImage
Collagen is an anti-depressant, reversing the negative effects of cortisol & increasing brain cell growth.

The intact peptides are absorbed and reach the brain, where they exert anti-stress benefits.

Impaired neurogenesis + high cortisol are two key players in depression.Image
