Perception!

How do you view the world? How do you view other people? How do you view yourself?

Perception is defined as ‘physical sensation interpreted in the light of experience.’

Often we look at the world, ourselves, and others based on things that have happened to us in the past. Did you grow up in a family that was filled with strife and division? Were your parents divorced? Were you abused?

Our circumstances and experiences in life frame our perception.

Having grown up in a home without a Dad present because of divorce, it was hard for me to understand a loving heavenly Father.

The door was opened in my life for a spirit of rejection to come in. That caused me to have a very low self esteem.

I had to let God change my perception of Himself and of myself. I had to look at what He says about Himself and about me, in His Word!

He says He is a God of love. He loved us so much He gave His only Son to die for our sins!

1 John 4:10
Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

God is Love!

1 John 4:8
He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.

He says we are fearfully and wonderfully made!

Psalm 139:14
I will praise Thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.

I have two teenage granddaughters living with me who are also having to have their perception of themselves changed by His Word.

It’s hard because as we’ve talked about before, the world looks at the outward appearance, and status in evaluating worth. It’s especially hard when there’s been situations like divorce or abuse that have framed our lives, and allowed the enemy in.

This morning I reminded my granddaughter that God looks at her heart. He looks at what’s inside of her. She is a beautiful girl, but doesn’t see herself that way.

Yesterday I was in a store and there was a lady working there who had a severe deformity on one side of her face. She did not look up as I passed by, but I wanted her to.

I wanted to smile at her and let her know that what people viewed on the outside wasn’t important, I wanted to show her I could look past that to her heart.

One of my best friends has crippling rheumatoid arthritis, but when you look at her you see beauty! Her inner beauty shines, so that is what you see.

Yes, people may initially look at what’s on the outside, but it won’t be long before their perception changes if the LORD is in us.

Do you need your perception changed today? Or do you have the inner beauty that comes from the LORD? His Word will change you. He will save you if you call on His Name, and He will transform you into a shining beautiful light in this dark world!

Romans 12:2
And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

Philippians 2:15
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world.

1 Peter 3:3-4
Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel.

But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

What the LORD values is inside our hearts!
