People are incredibly frustrated, and want to know what we’re doing to meet this moment and fix what Trump is breaking.
Here’s my plan. America needs a new governing document – and a new entity to meet this moment.
🧵👇🏼
America’s unaffordable, people don’t feel safe, the government doesn’t work for those who need it most, and our democracy is under attack.
I put together a framework to fix it.
Number 1:
A new governing document: A Pledge to America
We need a new governing document that explains to the American people how we're going to fix the economy, how we're going to keep people safe, how we're going to fix democracy, the government, everything.
Here’s how…
In 1994, Republicans introduced the Contract with America—10 bills they’d pass if they won the majority.
They were very successful.
Ours — the “Pledge to America” includes 10 bills will fundamentally fix what’s broken.
1. Reward Hard Work, Not Wealth Act: This is the alternative to the terrible budget bill they just passed.
It would fix the tax code, making sure that everybody at the top pays all their taxes. Then, we can provide meaningful tax relief for the working folks, small businesses, farmers, and the middle class.
2. The Build Baby Build Bill: Yes, that’s a lot. But we need to build again: More housing, more infrastructure, more broadband.
All so we can have lower rent, lower housing costs, and better access.
3. Improve Care, Lower Costs Act: This is the bill that would expand access to health care. It would create a public option and allow people to buy into Medicare.
It would lower costs significantly by requiring full transparency for insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, hospitals, AND it would get us back into negotiating lower prescription drug prices across the board.
4. Improve Education Act: No party has had a real plan to improve education in decades.
This bill invests in early childhood—from prenatal care and paid leave to preschool—so every kid shows up to kindergarten ready.
It also makes college and the trades more accessible and affordable.
5. Improve the Federal Government Act: This is really important. It would require independent audits for EVERY agency and create a binding vote to tackle any waste, fraud, and abuse in the audit.
Equally as important, it would require a number of anti-corruption measures.
6. Fix Our Democracy Act or the John Lewis Voting Rights Act: End voter suppression, partisan gerrymandering, and dark money. Stop politicians from buying and selling stocks.
7. 21st Century Anti-Crime Bill:
Communities across the country, particularly cities, are really struggling with gun violence. They need more police officers and they need real gun reform – this bill would do that.
8. Restoring Personal Liberties Act: Protect personal autonomy—from reproductive freedom, LGBTQ rights, and more.
9. Border Security & Immigration Reform Act: This bill includes a ton of bipartisan measures: additional Border Patrol officers, more judges, asylum reform…
and perhaps most importantly, legal pathways for Dreamers and for folks who have been working here.
10. Strengthening America’s Global Leadership Act: This would reaffirm our alliances, fight authoritarianism, and promote democracy and trade.
Also, this bill would reinvest in the foreign aid we know is so critical to our national security – and just us as human beings.
Second big thing: We need a new national entity — a group of people and leadership who are fully dedicated to this moment.
We need it to reframe the narrative and meet the moment fully.
It needs to have the moral seriousness and political discipline of the Civil Rights movement, so people all over the country know what they’re seeing is really bad.
BUT there’s a better way forward—and we can get there.
These are the two big things I believe will help us fix what they’ve broken.

The situation in Gaza is bad and the humanitarian crisis must end.
Five really important things to know that I believe will help end this crisis. 🧵📽️👇🏼
1. It’s a very good thing that the Netanyahu government is surging aid — something I’ve personally pushed the Prime Minister on many times.
They set up new distribution centers (to go around Hamas) and, while it’s worked to some extent, it’s not enough.
So, Saturday’s decision to send even more aid in was the right one — and a strengthened partnership with the World Food Programme should help significantly.
But what didn’t really get covered was one of the cruelest bills to ever pass the House.
6 ways that this bill will hurt, if not kill, children and families. 🧵🎥👇🏼
It makes permanent about $10 billion in DOGE cuts.
These are cuts that Elon Musk, Donald Trump and others in the administration, the billionaires, want.
This bill is a legitimate example of how billionaires are running the government. The world's richest people are going after the country’s and the world’s poorest children.
1. The bill slashes $4.15 billion in humanitarian programs for children.
Globally, this means that 40 million children will no longer have school.
Hunger will spread and at least 3.6 million children will go without clean water.
If you're trying to understand this terrible budget, the best way to do it is look at the math.
Here are the most important numbers 🧵🎥👇🏻
Congressional Republicans want to spend $4 trillion in tax cuts that mostly benefit the wealthiest Americans and the big corporations.
To pay for it, they’re proposing:
➡️ ~$900B cut to Medicaid – kicking 8 million people off their health care
➡️ $360B cut to the ACA – 5 million more lose coverage
➡️ $230B cut to food assistance – millions, mostly children, go without
➡️ + $2T added to the national debt
