A Palestinian recounts being held hostage for a year in an Israeli prison. From February
Yuli Novak from @btselem: "Ongoing abuse, daily violence... humilitation, sleep deprivation, people are starved. The Israeli prison system as a whole, in regard to Palestinians, turned into a network of torture camps"
@btselem .@UbaiAboudi in April: "The Israeli prison system.. aims to maintain apartheid & the subjugation of the Palestinian people.. this system aims to break the Palestinian will, the Palestinian resilience"
@btselem @UbaiAboudi In January 2024 it was reported that Israel had not only banned Palestinians from visiting family members in Israeli prisons, they also banned lawyers from visiting too.
@btselem @UbaiAboudi Israel operates administrative detention, which means they can lock up Palestinians without charge or trial indefinitely & they don't have to produce any evidence. And as @antloewenstein explains, that goes along with starvation, abuse & torture
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein Clip from January 2024:
There are over 8,000 Palestinians locked up in Israeli jails, & 3,200 of them are held under 'administrative detention', where they are imprisoned without trial or charge & Israel don't even have to produce any evidence.
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein "They used sticks and forced them into the detainees anus & caused an internal bleed. Other detainees had broken skulls.. due to the beating & torture"
Khaled Zabarga, a Palestinian lawyer, reports the testimony of Palestinians held in an Israeli prison
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein Surgeon Issam Abu Ajwa recounts being kidnapped by the IDF & taken to an Israeli prison, where he was tortured & beaten. He also reports how Israeli doctors refused to treat Palestinians who were hurt and took part in the abuse.
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1: "Palestinians are kept in Israeli jails without due process or [a] fair trial... they are held under administrative detention frequently, which can go on for 20yrs without a trial or charges"
Clip from November 2023
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 Ayed Abu Eqtaish from @DCIPalestine explains how Palestinian children found guilty by Israel of throwing stones can be sentenced to up to 20yrs, held in solitary confinement, & are often imprisoned in Israel where families find it difficult to visit them
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine Said Abdulrahman Maarouf, a paediatrician, describes how Israeli soldiers took him from the hospital where he works, He was then locked up for 45 days, shackled, starved & tortured. His crime? Looking after children. Clip from February 2024
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine "There are currently more than 180 minors held in Israeli jails, many for as little as throwing stones at soldiers"
Clip from October 2023
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine Part of the testimony of an Israeli doctor where he confirms that Israeli medics refuse to give Palestinian prisoners anesthesia during operations. But he says there's no need for a cover up because Israelis can do almost anything they want to Gazans
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine .@Hind_Gaza reported on how Palestinian hostages held in Israeli prisons are abused & tortured. Clip from August last year
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine @Hind_Gaza A report by Hani Mahmoud in February on how Palestinians being released from Israeli prisons have horrific health conditions. The Palestinians themselves recount being beaten regularly, tortured, deprived of food & water, & being sexually abused
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine @Hind_Gaza From April: Israel holds 3,500 Palestinians under 'administrative detention' - this means they are detained without charge or trial & they (& their lawyers) aren't shown the evidence against them! They are also routinely beaten & tortured
@btselem @UbaiAboudi @antloewenstein @MustafaBarghou1 @DCIPalestine @Hind_Gaza From earlier this month:
▪️10,800 Palestinians are locked up in Israeli prisons
▪️More than 450 of those are children

Ordering people to move to a specific area like Al Mawasi to be safe & then attacking them when they're there is a war crime called perfidy, & Israel has been committing it for 18 months.
Ahmad describes how his sister was in a tent with her children in Al Mawasi when Israel bombed the camp. She took most of the blast as she shielded her kids & died from her wounds because of the lack of medical supplies to save her
Israel bombed a residential home in Al Mawasi & killed 14 people, most of them children under the age of 10.
"One child I'll never forget had burns so bad you could see her facial bones. We knew there was no chance of her surviving that but there was no morphine to give her. So not only was she inevitably going to die, but she would die in agony"
"Israel says that it targets hospitals because Hamas regularly uses hospitals as cover for its fighters. While you been there, is that something you have ever seen evidence of?"
"Not at all... I do not believe the IDF have provided any credible evidence"
A thread where @RivkahBrown from @novaramedia explains the shocking treatment of domestic abuse survivor & socialist Labour MP Apsana Begum. Here, Rivkah talks about the background to the case & the attempt by political friends of Apsanas abusive ex to send her to jail. (1/5)
"This is a maddening nightmarish situation for any survivor of dmoestic abuse... For his friends to pursue you in the courts to try & imprison you.. on the basis of personal & political vendettas against you. Now all of this was going on in full view of the Labour Party" (2/5)
.@RivkahBrown: "The Labour Party will claim it hasn't done anything. Keir Starmer hasn't been actively abetting what's been happening.. he's just not done anything. And this is precisely the problem" (3/5)
Mick Lynch is a brilliant communicator. He calmly gets his point across, he sticks to that point & doesn't get sidetracked, & he calls out the lies, stupidity & spin of politicians & journalists. So heres a🧵of the various clips I've done featuring Mick that show all that & more!
As news of those honoured in the Queens Birthday Honours list is announced, have a read of Benjamin Zephaniah's explanation from 2003 of why he refused an OBE - he excoriates both the honours system and the man who offered him the 'honour'. theguardian.com/books/2003/nov…
Ken Loach also refused an OBE (in 1977), explaining: "It's all the things I think are despicable: patronage, deferring to the monarchy and the name of the British Empire... I turned down the OBE because it's not a club you want to join when you look at the villains who've got it"
Howard Gayle refused an MBE in 2016: "my ancestors would be turning in their graves after how Empire & Colonialism had enslaved them... It would be a betrayal to all of the Africans who have lost their lives, or who have suffered as a result of Empire." bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…
