The land it is the landlord's, the trader's is the sea, the ore the usurer's coffer fills, but what remains for me? Not all clips are endorsements.

A thread where @RivkahBrown from @novaramedia explains the shocking treatment of domestic abuse survivor & socialist Labour MP Apsana Begum. Here, Rivkah talks about the background to the case & the attempt by political friends of Apsanas abusive ex to send her to jail. (1/5) "This is a maddening nightmarish situation for any survivor of dmoestic abuse... For his friends to pursue you in the courts to try & imprison you.. on the basis of personal & political vendettas against you. Now all of this was going on in full view of the Labour Party" (2/5)

As news of those honoured in the Queens Birthday Honours list is announced, have a read of Benjamin Zephaniah's explanation from 2003 of why he refused an OBE - he excoriates both the honours system and the man who offered him the 'honour'.
theguardian.com/books/2003/nov… Ken Loach also refused an OBE (in 1977), explaining: "It's all the things I think are despicable: patronage, deferring to the monarchy and the name of the British Empire... I turned down the OBE because it's not a club you want to join when you look at the villains who've got it"

I recently read The Starmer Project by Oliver Eagleton & it does an excellent job in explaining Starmers politics through charting his professional/political career. Ive tweeted about lots of interesting stuff in the book & thought I'd collect them all together in a single thread This was a shocking story. In 2003, at an organised bonfire party a caravan with the number plate 'P1KEY' & effigies of traveller children inside was set alight. As a QC Starmer was asked to advise the Director of Public Prosecutions on the case.

Jeremy Corbyn debunked smears, #4953

In Nov 2015 the Labour leader attended a Battle of Britain 75th anniversary commemoration. While there, a 'photo journalist' reported (through his twitter account) that Corbyn stole two bags of sandwhiches meant for veterans. "Nasty". (1/4) The report was picked up by others eager to spread the story. Gu*do reported: "Corbyn & Watson accused of taking Sandwiches meant for veterans". The Telegraph shared the story, adding a journalistic question mark. Piers Morgan shared the tale with his millions of followers (2/4)

In Dec last year, during an interview where she discusssed the appalling racist abuse she'd experienced as an MP, Zarah Sultana confirmed that neither she nor Apsana Begum had received any public expression of support or solidarity from Keir Starmer (1/5)
In the same interview, Zarah confirmed she'd received support from other members of Labours Shadow cabinet, but no support from Starmer or his office, either publicly or privately. On that lack of support: "It shocks me", she said. (2/5)

In 2020 Osime Brown was going to be deported after being jailed for stealing a friends mobile. He came to the UK aged 4, had autism & a learning age of 6-7

On 12th Dec 100 public figures & MPs called for it to be stopped

Two days later Starmer defended the policy on LBC (1/4) This was the 12th December letter calling for Osimes deportation to be stopped. Labour MP's that signed it included Diane Abbott, Apsama Begum, Kim Johnson, John McDonnell, Kate Osborne, Bell Ribeiro-Addy, Zarah Sultana, Beth Winter & Nadia Whittome (2/4)

Just watched @AaronBastani interviewing @EagletonOliver about Keir Starmer. Fascinating & insightful. Here Oliver talks about how Starmer sabotaged negotiations over a soft brexit deal "so that Labour would have no choice but to swerve towards a peoples vote" (1/6). #Downstream .@EagletonOliver on Keir Starmers 10 pledges: "Starmers abandonment of his pledges is made to throttle the Labour left, to make sure that none of their policies will see the light of day... even at the expense of the planet itself". Damning. (2/6)

Jonathan Powell, Blairs one time Chief of Staff: "Keir Starmer doesn't tell lies".

Starmer told multiple lies to Labour Party members in order to get elected leader. I guess Powell doesn't think they count? Here's Starmer, during the leadership campaign, backing nationalising water & electricity. He was lying.

When asked whether she recognises the results are "alright, not outstanding" Labour right MP @bphillipsonMP reminds viewers Labour had a very good set of results in 2018 (the last time these elections were contested). Really? That's not what the Labour right were saying in 2018! One headline from the day after the 2018 local election: "Jeremy Corbyn blasted by own MPs as Labour bid to seize Tory crown jewels in 2018 local elections implodes"

I see Angela Eagle was chairing Labour conference this morning. Eagle has been MP for Wallasey since 1992, and for anyone who doesn't know the history, this is a thread on how she was selected for that seat all those years ago (1/9) Lab's candidate in 87 was Lol Duffy & he just lost out, cutting a Tory majority of 6708 to 279. Duffy was the favourite to be selected again in 92, receiving 70% of all local nominations, including 5 of 6 local branches in the CLP, the womens section & numerous trade unions (2/9)
