A number of eye opening studies show that biotin (vitamin B7) megadoses can dramatically improve diabetes, and even reverse it.

(🧵1/9)Image
The most striking of the bunch was done in 1993.

People with type 2 diabetes (>171 mg/dL fasting blood sugar) were recruited.

These people were on sulfonylurea drugs or dietary treatments, with little to no success in controlling their diabetes.

People either took 9 mg (a HUGE dose) of biotin or placebo.

(2/9)Image
People with diabetes had less than 60% of the serum biotin that healthy people did.

This was strongly correlated to higher blood sugar.

The higher the biotin level, the lower the blood sugar.

(3/9) Image
Biotin cut blood sugar nearly in half after just one month.

232.2 ➜ 128 mg/dL.

Their pyruvate and lactate levels also dropped substantially,

indicating less buildup of intermediate glucose metabolites and thus better carbohydrate metabolism.

(4/9) Image
Biotin cut blood sugar by more than half, even after years of administration.

Up to 4 years - the effect was consistent.

Note: these people were also put on an antimicrobial "in order to prevent the proliferation of the usual intestinal microflora that might digest or degrade the administered biotin."

(5/9)Image
One patient showed complete reversal of diabetes with the biotin megadose.

Blood sugar cut by 2/3s, now at normal levels.

Was able to wean off of diabetic drugs in the process without raising blood sugar.

(6/9) Image
Other studies have shown similar results.

For example here a megadose of 16 mg biotin / day reduced fasting blood sugar by over half in one week in diabetics.

Crazy.

(7/9) Image
A 2022 meta analysis has confirmed the beneficial effects of biotin in insulin resistance / diabetes.

They found on average a 22 mg/dL drop in fasting blood sugar,

and a 61 mg/dL drop in triglycerides - a type of fat in the blood that becomes high during diabetes.

(8/9) Image
Why biotin is so effective for diabetes:

High blood sugar and insulin resistance are fundamentally from the inability of cells to oxidize glucose for energy.

This is what keeps glucose high in the blood.

Biotin is known to increase the expression of the enzyme glucokinase (or hexokinase) - the first step in breaking down sugar into energy. This means it promotes that process.

Biotin is also a cofactor for several enzymes, notably here pyruvate carboxylase, which replenishes the citric acid cycle in the mitochondria, supporting energy production.

A recent study showed that eye floaters can be reduced by 70% in a few months with a simple supplement.

(🧵1/8)Image
The study was published in 2022.

Eye floaters are becoming a bigger issue, since they were thought to mainly effect older people.

However, blue light from electronic devices / indoor lighting might be a key driver of their formation, so younger people are having them more and more often.

70-80% of people now report they have them.

(2/8)Image
224 people were involved.

The supplement contained:

◇ Bromelain - an enzyme from pineapple
◇ Papin - an enzymes from papaya
◇ Ficin - an enzyme from fig

Groups were:

1. Placebo
2. Low dose
3. Middle dose
4. High dose

An incredible study has shown that a simple, cheap over the counter supplement can improve brain regeneration by ~90%.

(🧵1/8)Image
Image
The study was published in The Journal of Trauma, Injury, Infection and Critical Care.

While it was a relatively small pilot study, the results were so encouraging that it's a shame it's never been properly followed up on, as the study was published in 2006.

(2/8) Image
They took children and adolescents who had severe traumatic brain injury.

Within 4 hours of the injury, they received 0.4 g / kg bodyweight of creatine, for 6 months.

This is a pretty huge dose, 4-5X the amount that is typically recommended for athletic performance.

A fascinating study shows that daily vinegar consumption improves depression scores by >50%.

(🧵1/8)Image
This study came out in 2021 in the journal of Nutrients.

Vinegar has several beneficial effects metabolically.

Metabolism and mood are deeply intertwined - so researchers sought to find out if vinegar had direct antidepressant qualities.

(2/8)
Image
Participants were college students.

They also excluded obese individuals, or anyone with other underlying illness.

Thus, the population was already relatively young and healthy - meaning any effect of vinegar had to be strong in order to move the needle.

A new study has shown that eating 2 oranges a day reduces fatty liver by 30%.

And no, it's not just a correlation.

(🧵1/7)Image
The study was published in September, looking at people with fatty liver disease.

It's been shown repeatedly that orange juice has beneficial effects on metabolism, as I've written about below.

The researchers wanted to investigate just oranges.

(2/7).
Image
People in the study had verified fatty liver disease, along with being diabetic or having the metabolic syndrome.

Everyone entered the study being weight stable, so the changes were unlikely to be due to anything but the oranges.

A new study shows that baking soda outperforms conventional fluoride toothpaste for plaques and gingivitis.

(🧵1/7)Image
Image
A previous meta analysis of 5 studies showed that brushing with baking soda removes plaques, often by ~85%.

Potentially by:

1. Physical displacement of plaques
2. Reducing viscosity of plaque matrix
3. Improving plaque penetration by the brush
4. Antimicrobial effects

(2/7)Image
This paper was published last month, comparing:

➥ A baking soda toothpaste with some (0.31%) fluoride

to

➥ A high fluoride (0.73%) toothpaste

People in the study had confirmed plaque + gingivitis.

1 minute of brushing, twice daily.

If you're tired of guessing about your health - you'll want to do some advanced testing.

Here's 5 of the best ones to get:

#1 Mitochondrial performance analysis

Health issues often stem from poor mitochondrial function - and we can measure exactly where they are struggling⬇️Image
Over 90% of the energy in your body is produced through the electron transport chain in your mitochondria.

If it's not working properly, it can result in any number of health issues, since all health issues are downstream of impaired mitochondrial function.

Thankfully, we can test for the functioning of each enzyme.

Each of these enzymes is disproportionately involved in the metabolism of certain nutrients (i.e. carbs or fat),

and also require nutrients to function properly.

Things like red light, methylene blue, PQQ, and various other tools can also plug in and support the functioning of these enzymes or increase their expression.

Thus, you have a powerful and applicable tool.

This is available direct to consumer at mito.me by @chrismasterjohn

It can also be ordered by a practitioner through other means like mitoswab.Image

#2 Urinary organic acids + plasma amino acids

Your body is constantly performing chemical reactions to suit its needs for:

➠ Energy
➠ Structure
➠ Signaling
➠ Immune regulation
➠ Detoxification

and everything else.

If your body cannot make these conversions properly, your health will thus suffer.

These conversions can be inhibited by:

➠ Nutrient deficiencies
➠ Inflammation
➠ Toxins

among other things, all unique to the reaction, so its helpful to know exactly where things break down.

Urinary organic acids + plasma amino acids measures the amounts of over 100 of these chemicals, providing deep insight into where your body may not be making a conversion properly.

You can use this information to better design your diet, lifestyle and supplements to balance everything out or address certain inhibitions.Image
