Draken is sulking.
Mitsuya had his suspicion, of course he did. Having known Draken for years, it was almost too easy for Mitsuya to read him. He could tell from the way Draken's participation in the Toman group chat was minimal. Even Mikey who's usually into this kind
of things should be the one who sulked more, considering the situation. But even if he was throwing tantrums, he still talked his ass off through the chats, mostly accusing Baji and Kazutora for being unfair, and how Chifuyu and Mitsuya were complicit in this crime.
The said crime being them going to the Night Fair with only the four of them.
Mitsuya did his best to explain that the tickets were limited and he picked the only people who were available on that day. He would want everyone to go with them, though. It would be much more fun that
way, but well... it couldn't happen for reasons.
Chifuyu surprisingly took a lot of photos of the night they went out, and shared them all in their group chat. Which provoked Mikey to comment on each one of them, emphasizing the whole 'leaving him out of the fun' narrative.
Baji and Kazutora dodged the accusations with Mitsuya and Chifuyu interrupting occasionally to explain the situation and lessen the tension.
The other seemed to enjoy watching the banter. Pah-chin didn't side with anyone, but willingly added the kerosene to the fire. And either
Takemichi was forced or not, he only left reactions on Mikey's bubble chat, as if showing his support.
Mitsuya was so preoccupied with separating Baji and Mikey from virtually wrestling, he almost missed when Draken replied to one of the photos Chifuyu sent.
It was a mirror selfie of himself with Chifuyu.
The reply was short, almost emotionless, "Who picks the costumes?"
Draken wasn't known for his usage of emojis in his chat. If anything, he rarely used one, preferring clear wording to minimize misunderstanding.
He was usually so
easy to read. And this time, there was no difference.
Mitsuya could tell, the lack of enthusiasm from the words alone.
Chifuyu, however, remained oblivious.
"It's Mitsuya-kun! (≧▽≦) He spent an hour to dress us up!"
Baji immediately followed up with, "Man, we came here
for the ride, but Mitsuya wants us to look like supermodels."
Mitsuya replied, "So, you agree, my choice of costume is great?"
"It's the best, Mitsuya-kun! (≧▽≦)b" was Chifuyu's reply.
But Draken's reply was not anything that Mitsuya had expected.
"And who
picks yours, Mitsuya?"
Unfortunately, before he could reply, Mikey cut the conversation by replying to one of the footage of Kazutora throwing up in the bushes after the teacup ride and mocking him. The chat was now filled with everyone laughing at Kazutora and Kazutora spammed
warnings for anyone who dared to make fun of him. Of course, everyone took the opportunity to do the opposite of what he warned about.
Draken's reply went unforgotten, but not to Mitsuya.
Draken might be more mature than his peers, but Mitsuya knew he still got some childishness
in himself.
That was why, he decided to settle things with Draken.
In person.
It took him less than an hour to find the perfect fix for the situation, and hopefully this would work.
Well, Mitsuya was pretty confident it would.
"What are you doing here?" Draken opened the door
with a funny mixture of frown (clearly from the phone in his hand) and the surprise that he tried to suppress over the fact that Mitsuya was now standing outside his room when he merely saw him arguing with Mikey in the group chat minutes ago.
"You know exactly why."
Mitsuya didn't wait for Draken, and invited himself in. He dropped his backpack on the floor, before he went to sit on Draken's bed.
Draken was too stunned to react that he could only watch Mitsuya, as he remained standing near the door.
"C'mon," Mitsuya opened his arms.
"Bring it on, interrogate me."
He even made a scene of pulling out his phone out of his jacket and threw it on the table. It hadn't stopped vibrating, indicating that the group chat was still busy with the whole Night Fair things.
Draken's face morphed from being surprised, to
amusement, before it settled into emotionless, almost the same face when he tried to concentrate to beat down an opponent.
It was his serious face.
But, Mitsuya knew better.
"Why should I do that," he responded, crossing his arms over his chest, trying to appear uninterested.
Mitsuya rolled his eyes.
"I know you're bummed, because you couldn't join us, Draken," he said. "So, what do you wanna know? Should I tell you everything? You want to know what me and the boys do at the Night Fair?"
Draken was so close to pouting, that Mitsuya had to consciously
restrain himself from smiling.
"I don't care about that," Pursuing his lips, Draken now officially pouted.
Mitsuya snickered. "You said the same thing when Hakkai took me to that Pool Party and yet, you were giving him stink eyes for like, a week."
It was less than a week, two or
three days tops, but the way Hakkai complained to Mitsuya about how he felt threatened whenever Draken was around, making it like it was longer than that.
Draken scoffed, before he muttered under his breath, "Babies."
Mitsuya pat the bed. "I know for sure, you won't use that
word for Baji and Kazutora when they're around, so if you need to vent, I'm all ears. Come on."
Draken finally gave in to the temptations, and joined Mitsuya on the bed. His frown seemed to go even deeper than usual, Mitsuya nearly reached for his forehead to ease the lines.
Mitsuya had known Draken for years. He had admired Draken from the start, especially because of his cool side. How he always managed to appear composed and confident. How he managed to command the whole room with his charm. How Draken always knew what to say and what to do.
He was always that admirable. Even with his other sides too, that only his close friends and family might know. The other sides that were preserved for people who knew Draken personally. The other sides that rarely came out unless Draken felt comfortable to be vulnerable.
Draken is sulking.
Mitsuya had his suspicion, of course he did. Having known Draken for years, it was almost too easy for Mitsuya to read him.
And yet, nothing prepared him when Draken dropped half of his body on Mitsuya, stumbling them down both on the bed, as Draken whined.
"Why are you always looking the best when I'm not around?"
Mitsuya blinked.
With the way Draken rubbed his nose on his jacket, he resembled Pochi, the Pah-chin's dog, rather than an actual human being that terrified most of the people while leading Toman off the battle.
When Mitsuya didn't answer, Draken continued, with a slightly muffled sound.
"The shrine event, the pool party, and now this."
Mitsuya could understand that Draken brought up the pool party, but to bring up the shrine event that he did with Mikey back in—what, last year?!—too?
He never pegged Draken as someone who held on to revenge in his heart, but he might have to change his opinion soon.
"We went to that Dragon Dance Festival together though," he tried to remind him.
Draken pulled back almost immediately.
"That's only one time," he grunted.
"I missed the other three."
Mitsuya snickered before he pulled himself up, as Draken got off his body.
"Are you that worked up because you don't get to see me dressing up?" Mitsuya raised his eyebrows.
"And so what, if I am?" Draken huffed, looking away. "I always want to see."
Draken might be more mature than his peers, but Mitsuya knew he still got some childishness in himself.
That was why, he decided to settle things with Draken.
In person.
It took him less than an hour to find the perfect fix for the situation, and hopefully this would work.
Sighing, Mitsuya merely went to take off his jacket.
Draken frowned at the action, before slowly realized that he had been possibly watching something incredible unfolding before his eyes.
In front of him, Mitsuya wore a very nearly identical inner top from the costume he wore
in the photo he took with Chifuyu. It was a sleeveless, off-the-shoulder top in black color, that accentuated the exposed shoulders and fitted so well to his body like it was made specifically for him.
The truth? It was an old top that he recycled for this exact moment.
"I don't have the accessories and the other part of the costume, but you get the gist." Mitsuya folded his jacket, taking his sweet time as he could feel Draken's eyes scanning him from head to toe. Once he finished, he could almost taste the shift in the air, like Mitsuya had
just made some irreversible mistakes.
"Happy now?"
When he decided to settle things with Draken in person, Mitsuya was pretty confident it would fix the situation. Or at least, made Draken feel better.
Turned out, he might have just made it worse.
Not that the worst wasn't
expected, nor foreseeable.
"You did this for me?" Draken's voice was quiet, but it wasn't the kind of calm and collected quiet. If anything, it was the 'quiet before the storm' kind. The kind of quiet followed by the silence threat.
And Mitsuya wasn't above to play with danger.
Mitsuya stretched his arms.
"Well, I love when you have your eyes on me, so—"
But before he could finish his words, Draken had him pinned on his bed. The loose strand of blond fell on Mitsuya's face like a golden curtain, hiding their faces from the world. Like the darkened onyx
of his were only meant for Mitsuya.
Mitsuya grinned mischievously. "Like what you see?"
Draken growled. "Don't start something you can't finish, Mitsuya."
But Mitsuya merely shifted his body to sneakily use his leg to pull his backpack closer and nudge it to Draken's leg.
"I can very much finish the job," he teased, rubbing his leg on Draken's afterwards. "And I'm just starting."

It's for the best, Mitsuya thought.
It had been long overdue, he had tried to keep it to himself, he had tried to contain it as long as possible, but in the end, he had to put an end to it.
For once and forever.
"What did you say?"
The laughter that echoed in the quiet bridge
died in instant. The words were said with genuine surprise. Like they were never meant to be pronounced out loud.
Mitsuya inhaled slowly, to compose himself.
It's for the best, he thought.
"I'll be leaving by the end of the year," he said.
The quiet that came after was deafening.
Mitsuya didn't expect for proper reaction. Excitement maybe, but if all he got is a pure shock and disbelief, then he would take them too. Anything that he needed to memorize to commemorate the day he finally ended of something he had started on his own.
"Why so sudden?"

The night descended way earlier than Draken had expected. It wasn't true though. When you are in denial of something coming, you will always wish time to move slower to postpone it from happening.
Well, sooner or later, he would need to face the sobering reality, though.
And it
seemed way sooner than he expected.
"It's a good day," Mitsuya immediately sat on his bed and stretched his arms, once they were in their room. "It feels like one day is never enough, can't believe it's this late already."
They had spent the whole day, outside. Even having lunch

If he could, he would casually hit his own with a wrench. Maybe that would knock some senses into him. Maybe it would make his brain work better and more aware of the situation. And if not, he could just forget about the whole thing and restart.
Because, this?
This was never what
he intended to happen.
Everything was the opposite of what he tried to make to happen.
When he booked the room for this trip, he did remember saying something about a room for two. And he didn't say that without reason. The booklet of the inn he planned to stay in, was in his
hands the whole time. He literally was looking at it, when he made the call. He might even blush a little when he admitted he wouldn't be alone and that he was booking the room for two. It was a good thing that the conversation took place in Draken's room and via call so nobody

Mitsuya didn't notice it at first. It wasn't a strange thing after all. He had gotten used to this for years. Especially because Mitsuya secretly enjoyed it too, when Draken glued to him like he couldn't bear to be separated from him, even for a second. After keeping his own
feelings for what seemed to be forever to himself, Mitsuya would never take the copious amounts of attention from Draken for granted. Mitsuya loved being loved by Draken, sue him. Years of being in a relationship never ceased the giddiness of having that feeling.
This time, it
was different, though.
For the first time, Mitsuya noticed that Draken was particularly clingy, even more than he usually did. And instead of his spoiled grumbling, or reluctant whining he was familiar with, Draken was clingy in a way, Mitsuya wasn't aware of.
Draken was being

You can't blame him, okay?
If anyone, if you were put in his shoes, Draken would be 100% sure you would act exactly the way he did.
It wasn't like Draken wanted to justify anything, because what he did is 100% justifiable.
"What am I supposed to think?" Draken finally spoke.
There was no response, so he continued.
"You both were crouching together like that, head to head—" Even just replaying the scene in his head, it lit the untamable fire in himself. He tried to be rational, but it was hard when all he could see was rage. "and all that happened
when I wasn't there—"
Draken would say, he was pretty reasonable. He didn't like to think of himself as someone who thought and acted with his fist. Being coolheaded had never been something that he struggled with. He would prefer to sit back and assess the situation, before he

"Who did this to you?"
Mitsuya bit his lips, trying to hide the pain, when the alcohol was dabbed on his injury. It had been so long since the last time he was involved in any brawl, he was used to living a normal adult life, that he forgot that fighting used to be his routine
when he was young. This kind of injury was nothing, back then. Just some bruises and cuts on the corner of his lips, Mitsuya had it worse.
And, yet.
"You can scream, I won't judge you."
Mitsuya made a mistake by snorting. Damn if the punch on his nose had showed itself now.
"I can't help it," Mitsuya grumbled. "They were harassing a helpless woman."
A momentary silence and a pause. The cotton dipped in alcohol continued being dabbed on his face.
There was a slight nod, the sign to keep going.
And Mitsuya proceeded to tell how he, nearing 30s,
