There is ZERO reason cities should have any crime. In New Orleans the police started a program where business owners could put facial recognition cameras on their buildings and share the feeds with police. They used the data to round up violent repeat offenders.
The results:
- lowest murder rates since the 70s
- carjackings down 40%
- gun violence in hot spots down 80%
- known gang members effectively cordoned out of downtown areas
All of this while the police force is still understaffed and under-funded. The program is even supported with charitable donations.
It turns out you can just do things. You can just do things with political will and a little bit of technology.
The Trump admin should deploy this same technology in DC.
