⚜️1. The Gayatri Mantra first appeared in the Rig Veda (Mandala 3.62.10), an early Vedic text written between 1100 to 1700 BCE.

⚜️2. Rishi Vishwamitra is one of the sages who understood the complete power of Gayatri Mantra. He has given us the version of the Gayatri Mantra which is recited by many and this is why he is called “Vishwa-Mitra”, the friend of the entire universe.
⚜️3. This mantra is chanted to worship Devi Savitri, the creator nature energy.

⚜️4. Goddess Gayatri is Veda Mata" or the Mother of the Vedas. Gaytri mantra is taken from Yajurveda Chapter 36 Mantra No.3.

⚜️5. Chandogya Upanishad (3.12.1), “Gayantam Trayate iti Gayatri” means that the person, who chants (Gayantam) Gayatri Mantra, is protected (Trayate) by Gayatri.
⚜️6. The Gayatri Mantra is designed for divine shield, protection, guidance, and illumination. Gayatri Mantra is dedicated to Savitur (Aditya-Surya-Sun) and Savita (Savitri-Gayatri), the dynamic form (Shakti-Savitri-Gayatri) of the Core (Source called Shakta-Aditya).
Hence, Gayatri Mantra is dedicated to both, the Shakta (core) and the Shakti (dynamic form).
⚜️7. The Original Rig-Veda Gayatri Mantra (3.62.10) “Tat, Savitur Varenyam, Bhargo Devasya Dhimahi, Dhio Yonah Prachodayat!”

⚜️8. There exist a quite longer version of popular Gayatri Mantra in Taitteriya Aranyaka, Yajurveda, 10.35.1.
⚜️9. Our thoughts and actions will take on a new positivity. This is all possible through the sound energy of Gayatri mantra.

⚜️10. Our body consists of 7 subtle chakras and 72,000 glands (nadiyas). Each gland (ida, pingla, sushumna etc. ) serves a different function.
⚜️11. Each gland opens in the mouth. When reciting the Gayatri mantra, our tongue touches each opening and activates the corresponding gland and function

⚜️12. Brahma himself designed the Gayatri mantra to activate these glands, which when activated yield amazing subtle capabilities.
⚜️13. In fact, the human body is like a treasure chest, with many energy centers that generally remain inactive, dormant. But with the sound energy of the Gayatri mantra, these power centers will be activated and push one toward his greatest potential.

⚜️14. The sound associated with the Gayatri mantra will generate a magnetism (made stronger by deep rooted faith) that will attract similar positive thoughts from the environment.
⚜️15. The energy obtained from activating the glands associated with the Gayatri mantra is associated with the powers of 24 Devi/devatas. If the power/energy of a certain devata is sought, there is a specific Gayatri mantra for each.

⚜️16. The Gayatri Mantra has, 24 Syllables,24 Rishis,24 Meters, Chhandas, though Gayatri itself is a Chandas, and 24 Devatas, Presiding Deities
⚜️17. That is One for Each Syllable. These are personified as female deities (1) Vâma Devî, (2) Priyâ, (3) Satyâ, (4) Vis’vâ, (5) Bhadravilâsinî, (6) Prabhâ Vatî, (7) Jayâ, ( 8 ) S’ântâ, (9) Kântâ, (10) Durgâ, (11) Sarasvatî, (12) Vidrumâ, (13) Vis’âle’sâ, (14) Vyâpinî, (15) Bimalâ,
(16) Tamopahârinî, (17) Sûksmâ, (18) Vis’vayoni, (19) Jayâ, (20) Vas’â, (21) Padmâlayâ, (22) Parâs’obhâ, (23) Bhadrâ, and (24) Tripadâ.
⚜️18. The Vibration of Gayatri produces Hues (colors) for each Syllable. While chanting the Gayatri Mantra, we should always close our eyes and try to concentrate on every word and understand its meaning.

The mantra is an expression of gratitude to both the life-giving Sun and the Divine. So each word or even sound should be uttered correctly, as it should be. Although it can be chanted at any time of the day, it is suggested that it is better to chant the mantra early in the morning and at night before sleeping.

ॐ भूर् भुवः स्वः ।
तत्सवितुर्वरेण्यं
भर्गो देवस्य धीमहि
धियो यो नः प्रचोदयात् ॥

Transliteration:

Om bhūr bhuvaḥ svaḥ,
tat savitur vareṇyaṃ,
bhargo devasya dhīmahi,
dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayātImage
The Gayatri Mantra is addressed to Savitur (the Sun, in its divine aspect), but symbolically it invokes the Supreme Consciousness.

🌺।।Meaning Breakdown।।🌺

ॐ (Om): The primordial sound, source of all creation.

भूर् (Bhur): Physical realm (Earth).

भुवः (Bhuvah): Mental realm (space between Earth and Sun; also represents removal of suffering).

स्वः (Svah): Spiritual realm (higher consciousness).
तत् (Tat): That (the Supreme Truth).

सवितुः (Savitur): Of the Sun / Divine Source.

वरेण्यम् (Varenyam): Worthy of worship.

भर्गः (Bhargo): Divine radiance that purifies.

देवस्य (Devasya): Of the Divine.

धीमहि (Dhimahi): We meditate upon.
धियो (Dhiyo): Intellects, minds.

यः (Yah): Who.

नः (Nah): Our.

प्रचोदयात् (Prachodayat): May inspire, direct.

⚜️Full meaning:

"We meditate on the divine radiance of the Sun, the supreme source of Light. May it enlighten and guide our intellects toward the path of truth."
