UN’s shipping agency wants a worldwide net-zero tax that would slap U.S. ships with huge fees, raise energy costs, & hand China a competitive edge.
Trump’s team just sent a warning: Back the plan, face retaliation.
THREAD🧵
2/ The International Maritime Organization (IMO) will vote in October on a “net-zero by 2050” plan for shipping.
It includes:
⚓ Mandatory global fuel standards
⚓ A carbon pricing scheme across the entire industry
⚓ Heavy penalties for noncompliance
3/ Translation: If your ship doesn’t burn expensive, “green” fuel — you pay.
These costs will hammer:
📦 U.S. imports & exports
🛳 American cruise lines
💡 Energy transport
And they give China a free pass while crippling U.S. innovation in LNG & biofuels.
Because of course.
4/ The Trump administration says NO WAY.
Secretaries Rubio, Lutnick, Wright, and Duffy issued a joint statement:
“We will not tolerate any action that raises costs for U.S. citizens, energy providers, or shipping companies.”
5/ They warn:
🇺🇸 This is a global carbon tax on Americans.
🇨🇳 It hands a strategic advantage to China.
⚠️ It blocks tech where the U.S. leads — liquefied natural gas, biofuels — in favor of fuels not even widely available.
T1 Energy & Corning just struck a deal to build a fully U.S.-made solar panel supply chain—polysilicon to panels—no China.
It’s a $B move for jobs, energy independence & national security.
Here’s why it matters. 🧵🇺🇸
2/ Right now, China dominates solar.
They control most of the polysilicon, wafers, and cells needed to make panels. U.S. solar projects are dependent on China—and vulnerable to Beijing’s leverage.
• Make polysilicon in Michigan (via Corning’s Hemlock Semiconductor)
• Turn it into wafers in Michigan
• Process wafers into solar cells in Austin, TX
• Assemble panels in Dallas, TX
Aboard Air Force One, Trump said there’s a “possibility” America will join European allies to guarantee Ukraine’s security—WITHOUT NATO membership—if it ends the war with Putin.
Here’s what it means. 🧵👇
2/ Trump is heading to Alaska for his first in-person meeting with Putin since returning to the White House.
His mission: “I’m here to get them at a table.”
Not to negotiate for Ukraine, but to bring both sides together.
3/ When asked if the U.S. would back Ukraine’s security after a peace deal, Trump’s answer:
“Maybe. Not in the form of NATO. There are certain things that aren’t going to happen.”
That’s a huge signal—and it’s rattling both Moscow and Kiev.
The U.S. State Department just called out Britain for becoming a censorship state—but they didn’t even mention the 30+ people ARRESTED EVERY DAY for social media posts.
Memes send you to jail!
It’s worse than you think. 🧵👇
2/ Every year, the U.S. grades countries on human rights.
The UK got scorched, for:
• The Orwellian "Online Safety Act"
• Abortion protest bans
• Jail time for silent prayer
• Court gag orders
• Arresting citizens for “offensive” opinions
