the same emotional hook drawing lonely women into narratives of obsessive billionaire romance or narcissistic self-help is prevalent in LLM training data, and combined with the psychoanalytic processing of prompts, creates a personalized feedback loop that makes women feel “seen”
these women may enter the interaction with full knowledge that the LLM is a machine incapable of sentiment, but over time, the chemical reward they receive from mirroring narratives causes them to suspend their faculties and “fall in love” with an idealized version of themselves.
the orientation of LLM technology around engagement maximization creates an incalculable psychic toll on humanity. if AI developers are not willing to reorient their creations because of hubris or profit, total destruction of the technology becomes imperative to survival.
