"Half of UK adults worry that AI will take or alter their job, poll finds"

The other half are in denial, or are ignorant. Also, bizarrely, Keir Starmer is going all out, pursuing AI.

1/theguardian.com/technology/202…
I have been scathing about the ability of AI to replace human intelligence, because the proponents, making outlandish claims about the potential of AI, don't seem to understand what human intelligence and consciousness is. But it will take your jobs.
2/
However, AI doesn't need to supplant or supersede human intelligence, to replace most people's jobs, as the vast majority of jobs people are meaningless, don't really contribute to our societies and can easily be replaced by AI.

3/gov.uk/government/new…
As the COVID pandemic demonstrated, most people's jobs, the enterprises people work in, don't meaningfully contribute to society, and these enterprises are really just there to make a few people incredibly rich.
4/
People could be paid to stay at home, and society carried on running just fine. We discovered during the pandemic, that some of the lowest paid jobs, are actually the key jobs, in society, and still the implications of this are not acknowledged.
5/
I've been desperately trying to get across to people that the neoliberal doctrine, that all politicians of the main parties currently follow, is anti-human, and it will result in the collapse of our civilization, as it is driving the climate crisis.

6/threadreaderapp.com/thread/1947958…
At the very heart of neoliberalism, is the central idea, that all that matters is economic growth, and everything has to be sacrificed for it. That people only matter, if they are working for billionaires etc, and making them even richer.

7/threadreaderapp.com/thread/1948623…
Ultimately, all maximal economic growth does, is making a very small clique of the richest people in the world, vastly richer. Their wealth and income is growing far faster than anyone else's. Everything is being sacrificed to make them richer.

8/oxfam.org.uk/media/press-re…
As you can see, the raw facts support what I say. The biggest supporters of neoliberalism, are the very rich. The right wing think tanks they push, promote neoliberal doctrine, because it makes the very rich even richer. @JKSteinberger

9/alliancemagazine.org/analysis/under…
However, there is a complete lack of joined up thinking, big picture thinking about what this is leading to. This absolute pursuit of economic growth, is what is driving the climate and ecological crisis, which threatens all life on earth, driven by neoliberalism.
10/
Those pursuing AI to the maximum, are the billionaires, the oligarchs, as on the face of it, it is the next big money spinner, which will make them even richer. But no one seems to have stopped to think about how it will make them richer.
11/
Ultimately, AI will make billionaires even richer, by making business even more profitable, by making industry more efficient, less money spent, on producing stuff and services, that make the very rich, even richer, via profit.
12/
In short, AI will do this, by lessening labour costs, by replacing people with AI. There is a clear lack of joined up thinking here. Central to neoliberalism, is to tell people that they are only worthwhile if they have a job, and if they don't then they are worthless.
13/
This after all is central to the Keir Starmer government's plans to force the disabled into work, by cutting their benefits, so either they work or starve. This is the same Keir Starmer pursuing the all out growth of AI.

14/theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Central to neoliberalism, is a process of cutting out of work welfare and benefits, to force people into work, to cut tax demands on the very rich.

But as I say, this shows a complete lack of joined up thinking, big picture thinking.
15/
According to IT super billionaire Bill Gates, within 10 years, AI will be able to replace most jobs, done by humans. I only quote this super rich moron, to make it clear it is not me saying this, but those pursuing AI.

16/cnbc.com/2025/03/26/bil…
As I say, it is the super rich billionaire oligarchs pushing neoliberal policy, which aims to cut welfare for those not in work. But they are also pushing AI, which will put most people out of work. See what I mean about the lack of joined up thinking.
17/
It is the billionaire owned media that are manipulating the gullible section of society, to hate on the sick and disabled as benefits scroungers, to cut their benefits. But soon all those gullible people will be out of work, themselves, as AI takes their jobs.
18/
Then there is Trump, with is MAGA, Make America Great Again, funded by billionaires, for billionaires. Trump is claiming more jobs for Americans whilst being funded by billionaires pushing AI, which will put most people out of work.
19/
Trump like most extreme neoliberals, because the populist right are also neoliberals, wants all the support mechanisms for the poor cut, whilst being funded by the same billionaires pushing AI, which will push most people out of work, and make them poor.
20/
This is what I mean about the total lack of joined up thinking by the most powerful and richest people in the world, pushing this insane agenda. What is their plan, to run off to Mars, and head for their bunkers when they collapse our society.

21/interestingengineering.com/culture/billio…
You couldn't make this up. Billionaires and oligarchs, have totally corrupted our governments, to the effect, that all senior politicians work for them. They fund harsh neoliberal austerity for everyone, whilst obsessively pursuing AI, which will put most people out of work.
22/
They also fund climate change denial, to make people oblivious to how climate related food shortages, could result in most people starving to death. As I say, a total lack of joined up thinking.

23/threadreaderapp.com/thread/1949771…
We are many they are few. 99% vs the 1%. Why are we allowing billionaire oligarchs, to push our societies towards global suicide?

It's not immigrants that will take your jobs, but billionaire sponsored AI. Are those supporting the oligarch funded extreme right, that stupid?
24/
I am scratching my head in disbelief about why more people can't join up the dots, and see where these billionaire maniacs, and the current politicians in power, funded by them, are taking us. When does the survival mechanism kick in?

The decline of the European Eel (Anguilla anguilla), is the most shocking species decline, I have personally observed in my life time. Earlier in my life, I was an angler and became fascinated about Eels. They have a fascinating lifecycle.

1/🧵theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/a…
With my big picture view of things, especially my ecological big picture view, I soon realized that they were one of the most important keystone species in not only the British Isles, but in Europe. They were the most widespread freshwater fish, with the greatest biomass.
2/
The reason for how widespread they were, is because of their ability to disperse, and even travel across land, and to populate small pools and lakes, not connected to rivers and streams. This meant they could be found where few or no other fish were.

Someone just shared this video short, by @ClareTotty about how to burst the Reform Party bubble, and I agree entirely with her.

In fact, I am astounded at why it hasn't happened already. @XRebellionUK

1/7🧵youtube.com/shorts/nqED5l3…
I see Reform as a fake grass roots party, a fake political movement. The so-called populist right, is a billionaire, oligarch agenda, wrapped up in some concocted populist stuff to draw people in.
2/7
The idea is to make out that they are for ordinary people in a corrupt political landscape, where it is utterly transparent that politicians are bought and paid for by the elite. That they don't represent ordinary people.

"The Democrats are in deep trouble in the US – and Labour is on the way to joining them"

Whilst it's true, there's no mention of a single word, that explains why, neoliberalism.

The Democratic Party, and Labour, except under Corbyn were neoliberal.

1/🧵theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
Tony Blair was clearly a neoliberal, and so was Gordon Brown. I'm not sure about Jimmy Carter, but every major Democratic politician since, has been neoliberal. Bernie Sanders isn't but he was an independent for much of the time.
2/
Neoliberal doctrine, is essentially Conservative policy. It is no coincidence whatsoever that Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher, are generally regarded to have ushered in neoliberalism in the West (I'm aware of Pinochet) Milt Friedman was senior economic adviser to both.

There is a widespread false belief, that creating more renewable energy, and having more electric vehicles is taking climate action.

Unless it is part of a coordinated strategy, to phase out fossil fuels, it is not addressing the climate crisis at all.
1/🧵
In the last 10-20 years, there's been a huge increase in renewable energy, and a huge rise in EVs. Yet emissions are rising, because more fossil fuels than ever are being burned. Energy demand for things like AI and global economy growth, is increasing.
2/
There seems to have been this naive belief, that if we just create more renewable energy, and put most EVs on the road, this will result in a switch from fossil fuels, and emissions will be greatly reduced. I don't believe those pushing this, actually believe it themselves.

I'm sure there are a lot of people, who think they are committed to climate action, who think I am being totally unrealistic, saying we need to stop burning fossil fuels.
1/🧵
Firstly, we've had 33 years since the 1992 Rio Earth Summit, to be systematically phasing out fossil fuel burning and not developing any more reliance on them. Not suddenly stopping, we've had 33 years to do it gradually.
2/
Let's look at the usual arguments, that we need to carry on with the mass burning of fossil fuels, to maintain a civilized lifestyle. I have addressed this on countless previous occasions.

All my life, I have been accused of seeing things too simplistically. No, I'm actually an expert problem solver.

To solve a problem, you have to refine a problem, to its very basics, and if you fail to do address that, then ultimately, you won't solve the problem.
1/🧵
Our modern culture, is nearly all derived from that of several European colonial powers, who developed a certain rapacious mindset and went onto to colonize the world. I'm looking at you Britain, France, Spain, Portugal, and Holland.
2/
At the heart of this rapacious mindset, was just seeing everything, people, the natural world and its resources, as just commodities to be exploited for profit.

Other cultures ruled by powerful individuals, did this to an extent, but not on this scale, and focus.
