(🧵) Major media should be ashamed.

The manifesto of the Minnesota shooter has been translated—and it's all about his hatred of Jews, Blacks, Mexicans, illegal immigrants, Somalis... none of this had to do with him being trans and major media *knows* it.

So why won't it say so?

1/ The manifesto uses the most vile slurs imaginable to describe Jews and Blacks, groups MAGA is hostile to.

The manifesto uses the most vile rhetoric imaginable to speak of illegal immigrants, another group Maga is hostile to.

And it uses 4chan-speak. 4chan is a MAGA hotbed.

2/ Everyone in America knows at this point that MAGA is a fascist movement and that the first group it wants to start treating like the Nazis did Jews are transgender persons. So the second the possibility the shooter was trans arose, all of us should have apprehended the danger.

3/ The imminent danger was that the most vile and disgusting rhetoric about trans people would immediately flood social media—a violent rage *deliberately fanned* by the Christofascists in the White House. And you know what? That's exactly what happened.

*Exactly* what happened.

4/ People who are indistinguishable from Nazis in their hatred of the Other and powerful within the MAGA neofascist cult are screaming for deportations of trans citizens, new laws outlawing transgender identity, involuntary hospitalizations, and worse. Scary, un-American fascism.

5/ The manifesto of this deranged killer has been translated from the Russian he wrote it in (as a young nan steeped in Kremlinist MAGA culture and 4chan seediness). And it makes clear this was yet another far-right domestic terrorist—the biggest terror threat our homeland faces.

6/ The shooter *happened* to be trans. He did *not* just *happen* to be someone who hates Jews, Blacks, Mexicans, Somalis, and all nonwhites. He didn't just *happen* to be someone who hates immigrants.

His ideology is the same ideology MAGA killers have been using for years now.

7/ When corporate media gives over the megaphone of our culture to Nazis, Nazi things will happen.

And the rhetoric in America tonight is the sort of rhetoric that leads to armed mobs and mass death.

Corporate media has an ethical obligation to underscore what really happened.

8/ What happened is what's been happening for a decade. What the FBI, CIA and whole USIC made clear was happening (before they came to be run by Trump sycophants): far-right white domestic terrorism is the most serious terror threat we face today, full stop.

Full. Fucking. Stop.

9/ The manifesto is long. It's online. It's gone viral among the same Nazis who are most vociferous about the shooter being trans. Why? Because they see that real reporting on what *led* to this tragedy would yet again rip the hood off mass shootings and reveal MAGA as the cause.

10/ We have a violent death cult in our midst and it's tearing America apart. Even many MAGAs know it, as they *proudly* don't care about protecting themselves from viruses, call for violence, and think the US *should* be torn apart.

Trans folks? They just want to be left alone.

END/ As soon as the manifesto was found and translated, every media outlet that aims to be a vehicle for journalism should've not only made clear who *precisely* this killer said he hated, but *also* that the trendline of this sort of killing is *absolutely* clear as to its cause.

PS/ There hasn't been a formal confirmation that the shooter is even trans—and I want to clarify that *that* is why I used male pronouns in this thread.

If it turns out that female pronouns were the appropriate ones, I'd certainly have no problem whatsoever using them instead.
