1. GBP is king.

If your Google Business Profile isn’t optimized, don’t bother with anything else. Fix that first.

2. Local landing pages > homepage.

Stop sending paid and organic traffic to your homepage. Create dedicated city/service pages.
3. “Near me” keywords?

Google figures it out. Focus on relevance, proximity, and authority - not stuffing “near me” everywhere.

4. You need real reviews.

Don’t buy them. Don’t fake them. Train your team to ask every happy customer.
5. Citations won’t move the needle alone.

NAP consistency is a hygiene factor, not a growth strategy.

6. Photos matter.

Add geo-tagged photos monthly. Businesses with fresh photos show up more often.
7. Answer Q&A before anyone else does.

Don’t let random people write dumb answers on your GBP. Own that space.

8. Embed your map on the contact page.

9. Don’t sleep on internal links.

10. Schema helps - especially local business markup.

It’s not magic, but it makes it easier for Google to understand who you are.
11. Outrank your competitors’ citations.

Find where they’re listed. Get listed there better.

12. Your homepage title tag isn’t “Home | Company Name.”

Fix it: use a compelling title with keywords + brand.
13. Create blog content around LOCAL intent.

Not “how to fix a leaky pipe” - but “best plumbers in {city}.”

14. City + Service combinations are your best friend.

Don’t just optimize for “roofing.” Optimize for “roof repair San Antonio.”
15. Track calls, not just clicks.

Install call tracking. Know which pages and keywords bring actual leads.

16. Fight competitor spam.

If someone’s keyword stuffing their GBP name - report it. It works.
17. GBP posts = underused gold.

Post weekly. Specials, FAQs, announcements - Google likes freshness.

18. “Best X in Y” pages work.

Especially for lead gen. Rank those, and rent them out.
19. Call to action above the fold.

Don't make visitors scroll for your phone number or form.

20. Local backlinks > generic ones.

A single link from a city-specific site beats 10 generic ones.
