There are some moments when everything you once believed crumbles. I was once a New York Times reader. Oh, I know it’s gotten a lot of things wrong but I still thought of it as a real newspaper. Until today.

This article about Riley Gaines is so biased. So bad.
A thread.

I thought I’d go through each point that had me in stark disbelief until I looked back and realized I had 35 screenshots. Every single word of this article is a lie. A harmful twisted mass of half truths and unfair accusations.

I was truly shocked. 2/

It starts with the childish, X troll, complaint, that Riley having come in 5th has no right to say a man shouldn’t be in her race or her changing room.

Her coming in 5th is completely irrelevant! She is a hero bc she spoke UP.

When everyone else was afraid to!! 3/

Riley faced a school that put a man into her locker room when she was naked, allowed him to disrobe in front of her (how do you think he got changed?) and then put this man in her race.

The way this writer describes all this is to imply that Riley is the mean one here! 4/

The entire article is what’s called a Gish Gallop. It’s full of such nonsense it would take a week, and more of your time dear reader, than anyone cares about. So her nonsense goes out to the entire NYT readership. While my rebuffs will be read by only a few. 5/

The writer uses flattering photos of William Thomas, calls him “she” and quotes someone saying “I’ve never felt a crowd root against anybody before”. Ruth Graham is shocked by this. As if the crowd is mean.

It’s William Thomas who was being mean!!

The article states that “Ms. Thomas” (ACKKK) was national news before this and no one had heard of Riley. Again, trying to make Riley look bad.

WHY was William Thomas national news, hmmmmm?

There’s the usual lie about him being banned now from competition. No. He is not eligible for the women’s division bc he isn’t a woman.

She denigrates Riley for hating to lose. What athletes does?

There’s praise for how high Thomas rose in the ranks and so quickly. 😡 8/

There is the standard whining about how mean it is to speak the truth. She writes “offensiveness is a part of (Riley’s) brand”.

She speaks of Riley’s “version of telling the truth”. Well, at her truth is true. Unlike what I can say for this author. 9/

Then there is an interview with Jennifer Sey who posted the entire interview on her stack. Most of it got left out. All the good stuff about Riley somehow didn’t make it in the most biased nonsense article I’ve ever read. 9/

I’m afraid the NYT is completely ☠️ to me now. There wasn’t one word in that article that had any semblance of truth or reality.

It was a hit piece over a young woman they should have been praising for standing up to the worst harassment of women I’ve ever seen. 10/
