They know that a military takeover of Gaza city, and indefinite occupation of the strip won’t lead to the release of the hostages, the destruction of Hamas, or any sort of victory for Israel, and will only drag us deeper into endless bloodshed. And still, Netanyahu keeps pushing ahead and they still follow his lead.

Meanwhile, documents circulating abroad show American planners sketching out a future Gaza with luxury resorts, imagining a “future Gaza” of luxury resorts and “smart cities” built on the ruins, with Palestinians paid to leave and never come back. And inside Israel, the messianic far right is waiting eagerly for Gaza emptied of Palestinians and filled with Israeli settlements.

This isn’t a plan for security. It sets Israel on a course toward military rule in Gaza. It buries the possibility of saving lives, whether those of the hostages still abandoned or the two million Palestinians facing mass death and destruction each day.

So let’s be clear: Netanyahu is not rejecting deals because they are bad for Israel, or because there is no way forward. A concrete proposal already on the table that could bring the hostages home and end this genocidal war. He’s systematically and deliberately sabotaging every possible deal because his survival depends on serving his coalition partners’ vision of annexation and dispossession, and because prolonging the war keeps him in power.

Netanyahu and his government do not care about the lives of Israelis or Palestinians. That’s why it’s on us to fight against them and their horrific plans for our future, and push our societies toward a real political solution that will guarantee real safety for all of us.
