I've gotten a few items in the mail over the past few days. Let's test them out, and also improve the aesthetics of the re-enlightened PC. Time for a šŸ§µ Image

First, we have this Sony CDU701 32X IDE drive. I put it in the retr0brite bin in the wee hours of the morning, and when I checked it out when I woke up, it looked great! Since it tests out good, it is going in this PC for good! Image

Next we have this Acer 650P-047 50X drive. Unfortunately, it is flaky... it even opens and closes the drive door incorrectly when I try to open it. This was an eBay purchase, so back it goes! Image

Next we have this Panasonic CR-594-B 48X drive. It tests out good, but definitely needs a retr0brite. That's currently in progress! Image

Next, we have this Western Digital Caviar 34300 4.3GB hard drive. It detects just fine. And.. ahem... the previous owner didn't wipe the data from it. PSA: always do that with your old hard drives! Image

I did kick up my copy of SpinRite 6.1 to test this drive, and it passed (naturally I hit the wrong button when it finished and thus didn't get a picture after the test finished, oh well šŸ˜‚) Image

And finally, we have this Western Digital Caviar 13200 3.2GB drive. It detected just fine and passed SpinRite with flying colors Anyway, that's all we have for now, thanks for following along!

I have a bunch of ISA 16-bit sound cards to test! Let's test them (or at least try to test them) and select one to put in the new Re-Enlightened PC. Let's go! šŸ§µ Image

Before we get too far into this, I copied over DOS/Win3.1x drivers that we will need for the five different sound cards, and also made a backup of my DOS/Win3.1x partition, since we'll most certainly be screwing it up. I also copied over some games to test in DOS. Image

The first card we are going to test is one I have set up before: A MediaMagic ISP-16. I started to install drivers, and realized that they HAD to install from a floppy disk, so I copied them there! Image

I have a few updates for the Re-Enlightened PC that I built yesterday! Let's talk about them in a šŸ§µ here Image
First of all, I completed a retr0brite on the combo floppy disk drive. I think it looks a little better now! Still not a perfect match, but close enough! Image

Second, I swapped out the Trident PCI video card for an S3 86C75 Virge/DX PCI card. I actually tried two Trident cards, and they were both being a pain. This card looks SHARP! Very pleased with it. Image

First, as you might have gathered from the intro post, the new PC I built in the Enlight case passed a round of MemTest86+. I think I am going to nickname this PC "Re-enlightenment" since I already have a similar PC šŸ˜‚ Image
Second, the 3Com Etherlink III card worked in this system after running the setup program and flipping it to a different address (via Plug and Play). I think that maybe my Pacman PCs Ali Express mobo might be flawed, who knows Image

Alright, I have a confession, I caved and bought one of those NEW OLD STOCK ENLIGHT ATX CASES for sale on eBay!! It arrived today. What do you say, shall we build a PC? Let's do this! Time for a šŸ§µ Image
First, an unboxing since I have the original box!! This case is an Enlight 7250AKD. It is a little different than my other Enlight case, but is pretty similar. And it is GOREGEOUS! Image

First, we'll test some PSUs. Yes, I know, this is risky, I am ok with that. The Antec ATX PSU that I tested had a "whine" to it, so I pulled it. The Enlight ATX PSU tested fine. I let the system boot into Hannah Montana Linux and set for a few minutes! Pass.

Let's test this Creative optical. The last time I did some testing, it tested bad, but I believe in second changes. Sadly, not even a lens cleaning could save it. Fail. Image

Here are the specs! Pentium M 1.60 GHz, and 2GB of memory. Pretty nice specs. And the battery is charging up nicely too. Score! Image

Unfortunately, the HDD is dead on this. So I put in a CF card adapter, using the old HDD to help align its placement. 4GB is going to be anemic for Windows XP, but it will get us by for now. Image
