My friend’s 88 year old uncle's San Jose Jewelry Store was robbed on Fri 9/5 at 2pm. They ran a truck through the store and then pushed him down. He was injured by broken glass and then had a stroke. @MattMahanSJ you’ve done a lot for SJ but still more criminals to be locked up.

Community Leaders Demand Action After Violent Smash-and-Grab at San Jose Jewelry Store
Press Conference: Today, Sunday, September 7, 2025, at 4:30 PM
Location: Kim Hung Jewelry, 1904 Aborn Road, San Jose, CA 95121

San Jose, CA — In the wake of a brutal smash-and-grab robbery that left an 88-year-old jewelry store owner injured and traumatized, civic leaders and community advocates will gather today at 4:30 PM for a press conference outside Kim Hung Jewelry to demand urgent public safety reforms.

Surveillance footage shows a vehicle ramming through the storefront before nearly a dozen masked assailants stormed inside, smashing display cases and violently assaulting staff. The elderly victim was shoved to the ground and reportedly suffered injuries from broken glass and a stroke during the attack. San Jose Mayor, Matt Mahan, expressed his concern for the victim and his family & strongly supports the protection of small businesses against crime.

Confirmed Speakers:
- Mayor Carmen Montano, City of Milpitas
- Mayor Liang Chao, City of Cupertino
- Councilmember Yang Shao, City of Fremont
- Daniel Chung, Santa Clara County Prosecutor
- Victim’s Family Representative
- Edward Escobar, Founder, Citizens Unite
- Tuan Ngo, Founder, Asians Unite
- Chris Moore, Campaign Director, SAFE

This press conference will spotlight the urgent need for coordinated intervention, stronger deterrents, and justice for victims of organized retail crime. Civic leaders and grassroots advocates will call on city and state officials to take immediate action to protect vulnerable communities and small businesses.

Key Demands:
- Immediate installation of Flock safety cameras to track stolen vehicles used in smash-and-grab attacks
- Enhanced law enforcement presence and updated security infrastructure for high-risk retail zones
- Unified regional response from elected officials across Milpitas, Cupertino, Fremont, and surrounding cities

Kim Hung Jewelry is a family-run business and a pillar of the local community. Its targeting is not just an attack on property—it’s an assault on our shared sense of safety, dignity, and trust.

Quote from Mayor Carmen Montano (Milpitas) and Candidate for State Senate, District 10:
“This attack was not just on a store—it was on the dignity of our elders, the safety of our neighborhoods, and the soul of our community. We will not stand by while violence and fear take root. I join my fellow leaders in demanding swift justice and real solutions.”

All speakers mentioned that @CAgovernor is not protecting the people of California. The family begged Gavin to fund Prop 36 as the voters overwhelmingly approved.
