EXCLUSIVE: Grooming abuse gangs operated in Tameside in Greater Manchester as police missed key opportunities to intervene.
@GBNEWS can reveal that one of the alleged abusers now works in the public sector in the region.
Lucy, not her real name, spent Christmas in hospital aged 14.
She had pelvic inflammatory disease caused by an untreated STD after gangs of men abused her.
A police officer visited her house as she kept going missing, but told her off for being a nuisance.
Greater Manchester Police admit they fell far short of the help victims expected from the force and say that they now have specialist officers ready to listen and act on reports.
GB News understands that there are several more survivors in Tameside waiting to come forward.
In July, the police watchdog and Ofsted singled out Tameside for being too slow in combatting grooming.
Its children’s services have been rated “inadequate” since an Ofsted review in 2016. The department was again deemed “inadequate” in 2023, the watchdog’s lowest score.
Lucy fears retribution for speaking out.
She was beaten by the gangs and they threatened her if she spoke out at the time.
Lucy also fears their families and wider community who viewed her as "trash".
NEW @GBNEWS: A woman has denied assaulting a security guard at a hotel housing asylum seekers after a man residing there allegedly entered her blind mother’s flat with his hand on his genital area.
BREAKING @GBNEWS: The National Crime Agency has taken control of an investigation into allegations of child sexual abuse by former South Yorkshire Police officers.
Officers from Operation Stovewood will now lead the probe independent of SYP.
@GBNEWS The shift comes after the six complainants in the operation and their lawyers told the BBC and GB News that they did not have confidence in SYP to lead the investigation.
So far, three former officers have been arrested but none have been charged.
@GBNEWS SYP Assistant Chief Constable Hayley Barnett has said in a statement that she is "mindful there is a chance that some victim survivors may be suffering in silence and unwilling to make a report as a result of SYP’s involvement."
EXCL @GBNEWS: A Labour group has been slammed for promoting for a Stand Up To Racism counter-protest ahead of a demonstration at an asylum hotel in Aldershot tomorrow
@GBNEWS The Farnham & Bordon CLP shared the flyer, which called on activists to “stop the far right” and march towards the hotel.
Aldershot residents are expected to gather at the hotel - where small boat migrants have been staying for several years.
@GBNEWS Elizabeth was kept in a rape den for 10 weeks. One of her abusers was nicknamed 'PC'. She realised later that this name related to his role as a police officer.
She made a complaint this year and he was swiftly arrested.
@GBNEWS But his name was given away, which could have an impact on investigations through ID procedures and therefore affect the prospects of a conviction.
Elizabeth made a complaint about the incident to the IOPC, which upheld the complaint and apologised.
