An IOPC whistleblower has told @thetimes that the investigation into Rotherham abuse gang failures “barely scratched the surface” and deliberately avoided senior police officers.

The probe examined 47 officers. None lost their jobs. The most severe sanction? A written warning. Image @thetimes Op Linden received a lot of criticism when published in 2022. Survivors have told me it's not worth the paper it's printed on.

But now a whistleblower claims its standards were poor and there was “no desire” to uncover the reasons behind the failings.

Jess Phillips has expressed anger tonight at the slow response to child abuse inquiries.

Oldham Council wrote to her in July asking for a government inquiry. GB News revealed that she wrote back — saying no — almost four months later.

Will she apologise to Oldham survivors? In her interview with @AnushkaAsthana, Jess Phillips confirms she has yet to speak to any Oldham survivors.

Yet she still was confident enough to deny their request for a government-led inquiry.

How can you make that decision without speaking to the victims?

This conversation sparked by the abuse gangs scandal is spiralling into political gossip.

Let's bring it back to what matters: the survivors and getting the action they need.

So far, the government’s response to the demand for a national public inquiry has been to point to the IICSA report.

Bashing Elon Musk's amplification of calls for a public inquiry, Wes Streeting said that we’ve already had a report into grooming gangs so we don’t need another.

But what did the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse actually find out about grooming gangs?

In this thread I'll go through why many victims and campaigners think the report didn't do enough on the gangs.Image Published in 2022 after seven years, IICSA had a broad brief, which included all forms of exploitation.

Grooming gangs were lumped in with other abuse networks, while other subjects like online abuse, the Catholic Church, and care homes got their own investigation. Image

Britain’s grooming gangs scandal is attracting attention. It’s happened before, but now it seems different.

I’ve dedicated most of my career in journalism to covering it. Because it’s the most appalling atrocity in modern British history.

In this thread, I’ll tell you what I know about the crisis, what I’ve uncovered, and what is yet to be revealed…Image When did it start?

Reports of gangs of men abusing children via on-street grooming go back as far as the 1970s.

But it first came to major prominence after Labour MP Ann Cryer raised concerns about the targeting of young girls by “Asian men” outside school gates.

It was 2003. She was accused of racism by many in her own party and had to install a panic alarm. Cryer was vilified for trying to support girls facing appalling abuse by predominantly Pakistani men. She was the first to endure this treatment, but by no means the last.Image

GB News has seen a letter from Safeguarding Minister Jess Phillips urging the council to organise their own inquiry. Jess Phillips said that she understands "the strength of feeling" but rejected calls for a government-led review.

She also apologised for the delay in responding to two letters from the council's executive.

The barrister for the solicitor general said the film had been republished widely, including by Andrew Tate.

NEW @GBNEWS: “I am your karma” - Rotherham survivor powerfully confronts her abusers in courtroom statement ahead of sentencing

gbnews.com/news/rotherham… This was one of the most extraordinary and emotive experiences I’ve had as a journalist.

Seven convicted sex abusers sat silently in the dock - many looking to their families in the public gallery or glumly staring at the floor - as a survivor of the ‘harrowing’ ordeal they subjected their victims to stood up and told them that they had lost.

Speaking directly to them from the stand next to the judge, her victim impact statement detailed the appalling nature of her suffering.

She was forced to commit a sexual act aged 11, groomed at her primary school playground, raped at 12, her “childlike body” assaulted as she was plied with drink and drugs by a taxi driver.

In her stark testimony, she told the court how she had been made to take a virginity test aged 11. “You made it sound like it was a crime to be a virgin. That same day you sent me off and forced me to commit a sexual act. My innocence was stolen.”

The ‘dehumanising’ abuse led one of the victims to being raped by over 150 men by the time she was 16, having been trafficked cross the country.

The girls were abused in supermarket car parks, in cemeteries, even behind a nursery. In one shocking example, a girl had to escape from one of her rapist’s homes, climbing through a window after she was locked inside.

Some of the abusers looked towards the press gallery - where I was the only journalist present - instead of looking directly at the address from the survivor of their abuse. One man held eye contact with me for a few moments. Otherwise they looked anywhere but towards the woman telling them how they had not won, how she had beaten their abuse.

“You ruined my life but I won’t let you ruin my future. I’m a fighter and a survivor. You can’t and won’t ever take anything from me again.”

She closed her moving speech: “you stole my childhood, now I’m taking your freedom, I am your karma.”

Mohammed Amar, 42, Yasser Ajaibe, 39; Mohammed Zameer Sadiq, 49; Mohammed Siyab, 49; Abid Saddiq, 43; Tahir Yasin, 38 and Ramin Bari, 37 will be sentenced shortly.

The 17-year-old charged with 3 murders and 10 attempted murders in Southport is set to appear shortly at Liverpool Crown Court.

At Youth Court moments ago, the defendant smirked at us in the press gallery as he entered the dock. He cannot be named for legal reasons. He remained silent throughout.

He covered his face with his grey tracksuit during the five-minute hearing, occasionally lowering his jumper to reveal his eyes.

The alleged weapon was described in court as a curved kitchen knife.

His bail hearing is set to start shortly.

EXCL @GBNEWS: Several Labour and Tory candidates have supported a 'Sikh Manifesto' by an organisation that called for a "Sikh homeland" through the "break-up of India and Pakistan"

gbnews.com/politics/uk-se… The Sikh Federation told me that the manifesto “makes clear Sikhs are no different on the big issues, but this supplements specific concerns of Sikhs.”

They added: “The only controversial points are calling out the Tories (Rishi Sunak) for always appeasing the Indian Govt and highlighting issues that will bother the Indian Govt.”

The federation accused Conservative politicians of “appalling xenophobic and unacceptable actions towards Sikhs” and the “deliberate demonisation of Sikhs to appease the Indian government.”

Despite this, leading Conservatives have supported the Sikh Manifesto.

Guy Opperman (Hexham) was photographed holding the document.

Theresa May was photographed with the manifesto alongside her replacement in Maidenhead, Dr Tania Mathias.

Caroline Nokes, the Tory candidate for Romsey and Southampton North, was also seen holding the manifesto on a visit.

Conservative campaigner @sam_bidwell said: "The Sikh Manifesto is a sectarian document that doesn't reflect our national interest. The rise in this kind of sectarian campaigning should concern us all."
