ANECDOTE :

Before movement to College, There was an ET&T Senior of 2 Years, whom I knew, because he stayed some distance away.

When I told him, I have secured admission; so he said I have Mini-Drafter and French Curves still with me, you take it.

He gave Engg Chem book also.

I did not have the "Drawing Board" still, because it was Costly and also Travelling in "General" mean hauling it would be difficult. And I guess, I would find one easily, from some Senior.

ED (Engineering Drawing) Classes started, there were Assignment Sheets given, but no Board

ED is such a horrible subject. Everyone would make the Sheet, the Night before.
As it is, who studies in First Sem, because there is nothing to Study.
Its just PCM (with Engg attached as Prefix), ED + English (Yes, We studied English in First Sem).

And BOARD would not be

available. And RAGGING was Full-On, so No one wanted to approach any Senior.

Seniors approached us, only for Ragging. So, EKKIS (First Sem guys as known were) managed within themselves. The problem with ED is that, it is mandatory for everyone. My SHEETS backlog became 5 - 6.

They say; Your Reputation always precedes you, wherever you go.
So after a while, Ragging of mine stopped along with couple of others. So I asked one Senior of ET&T that could you please arrange for me a Drawing Board. Luckily, I had Studied from Milman & Halkias in 12th.

So I just impressed over him with it. He was bowled over.
Launda has studied from Milman & Halkias in 12th for a Tiny portion, and he was using that book now.

So, finally he arranged one Board for me, from someone for Rs.50 and did not take money also from me.

I completed my BackLogs of SHEETS in 2 Nights, to my utter dislike(Basically Traced through BULB), because there is nothing interesting about ED.

Now, One can Trace out ED Assignments, but what about SEM Exam? In our GEC, Neither Question Papers were set by College Prof nor they

were invigilated in college.
QP would come from some GEC or IIT and Papers would also be sent over there.

Being a lad, who did not opt for Biology, just because of Diagrams; I was on the verge of getting Back-Log in ED. A Back-Log in very 1st Sem. I still remember the Sem Exam

of ED, very vividly. I confidently went in the Hall knowing that I would Flunk.

Thankfully, ED Exam is Standing and there are Boards laid out on Stand individually for each Examinee and hence; the distance between two is not much. This was benefit number one. The Second one was

that in ED (Engineering Drawing) Answer Sheets are not evaluated strictly on measurement, unlike Machine Drawing and Machine Design; where one has to be very strictly accurate with couple of mm.

One just has to draw a "representational image" of Front-View/SV/BV or TV

Of the Object provided in the QP. As long as you are not of the type who thinks, one can evade Radar because Clouds are there; with assistance from neighbour, one can draw a good picture, within scale provided.

Luckily, I had a good neighbour and he fully co-operated.

So "My Diagrams" were not perfect, but I knew I could pass.

Like in ED, who fails for 3-4 Marks. After all, An Engineer is only evaluating it; and we are brothers from different mothers; like decade apart.

In Engg / Med Passing Marks is 50. I was hoping for 51 or 52. I got 65.

STORY CONTINUES :

Now, in 1st SEM, people like me, do not pay the Full Mess Fees; because you never know, whether you would be able to have Lunch / Dinner (Forget Breakfast because Every Senior is there in Mess, then).

So, Mess Fees was not included in Sem Fees. One can pay

Meal wise also.

Now this ET&T 3rd Sem Senior who was "Senior" (We had "Seniors", "Super Seniors" and "Super Duper Seniors") started giving me his assignments to be done. He would provide me Notes and Books and gave me "Assignments: to complete.

Probably he was testing.

Whether I bluffed that I used Millman & Halkias for Physics in 12th?

I would complete them, and he would get very good grades.

So, he would Treat me with Samosas, sometimes Lunch or Dinner. My Ragging from "Senior" batch was completely stopped and guys would smile on "GM SIR!"

Later on, We would discuss a lot about ANTENNAS on Lunch/Dinner coming from DD era.
ANTENNAS was in 4th Sem of his or guess 6th.
One Day, He Told me That I have Got "STEAM TABLE" for you; You would need it in future Sem. I was so Super Duper Elated, Like Imagine a Table from

from which STEAM is coming out and you get it for FREE.

So much Savings. I almost started to roll in his legs. I said Wow, for just a few "Assignments", I am getting Lunch/Dinner and also a STEAM TABLE.

I did not tell any of my Classmates about it, and would always wonder ST.

A couple of days later, I got a Tattered Copy of this ⬇️ from him.

It's unbelievable to imagine the disappointed look on my face.
Engineering THERMO was 3 Sem away. RAC (Refrigeration & Air Conditioning) was in 6th.

But, He Cared for me. I knew. I just did not know what is ST.

This "Senior" of mine is now a Very Senior Level Official in AAI (Air Traffic Control).

I have never missed a Flight in my life, Except once at IGI Delhi; which was a "Red Eye" and I called him and he did not pick (obviously).

MORAL of the STORY :

Despite Brutal Ragging in GEC, We had so much fun in 4 Years.

We did everything (Except Alcohol + Drugs + Sex).
Financial troubles, and some emotional too.
We always had back of each other. And we still, continue to do. The TRUST is still there, on WORD.
